Would it be out of line to request a refund of the 10¢ fees we pay for 10 day auctions, if there is an outage during the 10 days? I mean if there's an outage we're not getting the entire 10 days we paid for, right?

Yes I think it would be right infact if Ebay was into any kind of support the refunds would be automatic with out asking.

If ebay were out for threee days I would agree otherwise I guess we could pro-rate it . Let's see three days = 72 hours so .10 divide by 72 x the number of hours of the outage.

dman3- wouldn't that be lovely? however, I don't know if we could even get them if we did ask.
skip555- it gives me a headache just thinking about pro-rating! Yikes! Ebay used to give FULL credit to those whose auctions ended during an outage. No pro-rating about it. When they are down, they're down, you know?
tootsiepop- Every time I have requested credit for auctions that ended during an outage, they have given it to me. You have a point that this is a different scenario, but still, we are not getting what we're paying for when there is an outage.

I guess it wouldn't be out of line, but would it be worth it??? Even if eBay was out for a whole 24 hours, you would only qualify for one cent!?!?!?

oh I agree If the auction ends during outage They should extend it
Your orginal post implied a outage anytime during the 10 days hence the pro-rating
I really wouldn't expect a refund but I would like to see ebay automaticly extend any auction that ended during a outage for at least 24 hours..I beleive now it has to be a 3 hour or longer outage.
As we both know sniping can double the bid amount.

Let me clarify with specifics here.
I posted a whole bunch of 10 day auctions. During the last four days of those auctions ebay has only been intermittently available. Tag is backing me up on this, they have documentation of every outage from May 9-12 in the TAG notes from Sat the 12th.
To be blunt, I am MAD about it.
When you buy from a seller on Ebay, and the item you bid on was a "mint ponytail Barbie number one", and when you get her you find out that she is in fact not mint, but has a chewed foot and 2 missing hair plugs, aren't you mad that you didn't get what you paid for? Would you settle for a partial refund? I wouldn't. I am not the type of person to be happy with a partial refund when I didn't get what I paid for. I want WHAT I PAID FOR or I want my money back. period.
I am not interested in trying to figure out whether Ebay was down for two and three quarters of a day, or one and one eigths of a day, because truthfully I wanted the full ten days worth of exposure for my items. I'm not interested in pennies back, I want what I paid for. But if Ebay can't give me what I paid for I think a full refund of the money I paid for the 10 day feature is the least they can do.
Am I seriously the only one who is really bothered by this?

I am bothered by several things about ebay's handling of problems.
1.) Down Time. It is grossly unfair for eBay to make their customers, the sellers, leap through hoops to only get what we have paid for. It makes no difference to me if it is a 10 day auction or a 3 day auction. I paid for that amount of time, I expect to receive that amount of time.
2.)Auction Extensions. I do not understand why people are satisfied when eBay just extends the auctions.
All that does is create log jams of stuff for sale and the buyer that only spends Tuesday night doing this because that is their...husbands/wifes...bowling/bridge/poker/whatever...night is not ever going to see my item or have a chance to bid on it.
Somehow extending the auction 24 hours does not seem to be all that fair. We all know that some nights are much better for our particular category than others, and most of who take this as a serious economic venture know exactly what nights they are too.
I don't like my things to end on Friday (ebay's usual glitch day) or Saturday Night (partying, bidding drunk & backing out day) Your particular category may have a different time frame but you have good days and bad days and they will prove to be consistent overall.
3.) I am not a mushroom. eBay appears to think their sellers are mushrooms, that we should be kept in the dark, and feed a steady diet of horse $hit.
It can't be MY "fault", I've NEVER owned a "fault"!
