I'm wondering if eBay needs to update their calculating methods when it comes to feedback. I seem to recall once upon a time that feedback wasn't transaction oriented, and you didn't have to have been involved with a sale/purchase in order to leave feedback for someone...and in that case, I can certainly understand only counting feedback from a given person once.
However, since feedback IS now transactional, and you must have either been the seller or winning bidder in order to leave feedback for someone, wouldn't it make sense that each individual feedback count towards your overall total?
For instance, my feedback rating just finally got to the point where I got my cutesie little blue star for passing 100...though it really should have switched over about two weeks ago, since I was well past the total count of 100 at that point...but my "unique" count was only at 95. Currently, I'm displaying "104" (all positive, mind you [g]), even though my "total" count is 119.
Why doesn't it display a total count of feedbacks instead of just uniques? Why should it matter if I'm winning multiple auctions from someone?
Not that this is a huge deal in my life or anything, but like all of my other posts, it's just something I'm curious about.

It might be so that you can't have a friend buy stuff from you or maybe just so that people can see differing opinions ..

i've wondered about this as well. i understand that, in the case of someone leaving a bunch of mischief negs, this could really harm someone. hadn't thought of it in terms of having friends or another ebay name rack up false positives.
but especially in the case of a seller (eventer, i was going to site you as an example, but didn't remember it was you who had the impressive 1/4 figure of repeat customers), seems to me repeat customers count *more* than uniques, if it's not a matter of multiple purchases placed at the same time.

edited because i didn't read my own post first time around, and to tell katiyana, WOW, you get the repeat customer gold star!

I sell world wide from UK.
My sister-in-law sells world wide on eBay from the UK. Her son is in NY and sells world wide on eBay from USA.
I have friends who have children working in CA & Canada.
We could get a great International shill bidding syndicate going, but would NEVER chose to do so. I am happy with the present feedback rules.

if ebay thinks it's unfair for "friends" to run up feedback, the "friends" still would have to have made apurchase to do so. an expensive way to get feedback.. a better solution would be for ebay to investigate complaints of abuse feedback..and change there policy of not removing feedback once it's posted.

Well here's an email I shot off to ebay. Hope it made sense:
Hello:
While I don't have a TON of repeat customers I was wondering why eBay still chooses to have only each feedback a user leaves for another user to only count once. I completely understood and agreed with this rule before feedback became transactional, now it really makes little sense. Wouldn't it be more impressive to my perspective customers to see that other's trust me so completely that they would buy from me over and over? If so, then shouldn't I be rewarded for being an honest seller? At the same time, as a buyer, shouldn't I be rewarded for paying on time, etc, regardless of how many times I've purchased from the same seller?
