Saw some Pokemon (sp?) stuff at a yard sale today - a lot of cards and a plastic Pokemon carrying case. The price was $25.
I passed for two reasons. Most importantly, I haven't clue one about Pokemon. Secondly, everything else in this yardsale was so overpriced that I figured this was also.

Nah I don’t think you missed anything. I started on eBay in 1998 selling Pokemon. They have pretty much run their course. A Charizard that once sold for over $150.00 is now selling for $10.00 - $20.00 if your lucky and that’s one of the top cards there is. You probably could have made your money back if there was a lot of holo cards but if they were nothing but commons you would have had a nice collection of cards on your hands.
If you don’t really know what you’re buying it’s probably best to pass. It’s easy to get stuck buying trading cards. I had a friend who bought 5,000 basketball cards. He knew nothing about trading cards and thought he made the purchase of the century at $85.00. There was nothing but commons in there. Basically they were nothing but a bunch of junk. He ended up putting them in packs of 50 cards to try and get rid of them. He started off at .75 a pack, last I saw he was at .25 and he still has a ton of cards left

At $25, you'd have to have a few rares or holofoils to be worth that price - and the price IS coming down on them to be sure.
I've been selling/collecting Pokemon for 1 1/2 years now - the plushes are still selling very well, and the TOPPS cards sell very well for several months after the release - I have never had any luck with the Wizards cards selling...
Just like wtih any other collectible, its probably better NOT to buy if you don't have a clue about the value.
p.s. I picked up 4 Base Set boosters last night (the first set of English Pokemon cards - now out of print - and managed to get my 3rd Charizard.. *smile*)
Kolonel - are you selling Pokemon on Ebay now? Would love to check out your stuff - I"m about 20 cards short of finishing some Wizard sets.

No, you did not blow it. The Pokemon craze is long dead -- it paid my rent a year-and-a-half ago, but the cards were produced in great quantity and now that there's only 10% of the interest there used to be the supply side of the equation is very, very heavy.
Besides that, condition is everything in any kind of trading card, so if a card is less than 50 years old and less than perfect condition, it's probably not worth your time.
