I buy and sell costume jewelry on eBay. Since last fall I've noticed several new buyers join, bid on hundreds of jewelry auctions in a matter of days, and then become NARU'ed in a few weeks. I see two buyers now that are probably going to fall into that pattern. Doesn't eBay have software to detect these potential problems - or at least determine that this isn't the same buyer re-registering? These buyers often have a "sky's the limit" attitude which looks great to sellers initially until they don't get paid. In the meantime other buyers who would pay are knocked out of the running and sellers end up filing for a refund of their fees and eBay loses money.

I know that some dealers are buying to restock and some buyers just have a lot of money to spend, but can the potential deadbeats be detected?

Yes they DO have ways of detecting problem users (specifically repeat offenders attempting to come back onto the site) ... but eBay is so huge... it's always helpful if you can forward suspicious behavior to [email protected] to be sure nothin' falls through the cracks.

A quick investigation by eBay would determine whether or not a particular member is a "repeat" incognito.
