That title on the latest ebay promotional mailing sure reinforces their recent emphasis.

New ways to sell: only on eBay.

We're here to help you sell. And we're always thinking about new ways to make your cash register jingle. Here's what we've got lined up for the coming month.

New eBay Home Page!
We're launching a new home page in June with a fresh, exciting look! Additions include links to new happenings and sitewide seasonal themes for increased promotional opportunities. Check your monthly Seller's NewsFlash to learn about upcoming promotions for maximum listing impact.

Themed promotions for June: get on board now and get more action.
The new home page in June will also feature a new site-wide promotion box that will highlight selling themes for each month. In June, our promotions will include: Father's Day, Great Outdoors, Graduation, Sports Blowout, and Summer Fun. Spin your listing towards these themes for more traffic — and more sales!

Half.com's click-and-buy retail format opens the door to new buyers.
With Half.com selling popular items at half-price, buyers have another reason to come to eBay. And that's good news for your listings.

eBay Online Payments makes transactions safe and easy.
A breakthrough for both buyers and sellers, eBay Online Payments gives everyone a safe, quick, and easy way to make and accept payments. With no fees!

Picture yourself getting more sales with the new eBay Picture Pack.
Now you can include up to six pictures, super-size them, and add a Gallery — for just one dollar per listing! All you need is eBay Picture Services to harness the sales power of images and really make those listings move.

Please view the policy change for the View Item page.
On May 31, eBay will begin to actively enforce our policy prohibiting links that direct buyers away from the View Item page. The intent of the View Item page has always been to describe a specific item for sale, not the promotion of other items or businesses. Please read more about this policy.

We're here to help you sell.
New home page, new services and new sales opportunities: these are the kinds of things that reflect our commitment to sellers. And that commitment has made eBay number one with sellers worldwide.

just like I was saying on another thread, ebay will soon look like half.com you wont process the transaction they will and you will have no direct contact with the person your selling to

HUH?

Translation: We will put an ad on your auction page telling customers it would be stupid to bid on your auction when they can get it cheaper at Half.com

Good news for your listings? Only those that are attached to your house and don't want to leave!

Of course, that is just my opinion ...

WRONG!

The minute Ebay becomes a middleman instead of "just a venue" they will open themselves up to an unbelievable amount of litigation.

They have always played the "just a venue" game using loopholes as an excuse to "not get involved", but if they plant themselves right in the middle of the transaction, not only will it add to transacional delay and confusion, but as I said, it will make them a literal accessory to any and all fraud perpetrated through them---whether they disavow their responsability or not.

For all their legal counsel, they would be making a very poor legal decision.

PS: If that ever happens, and every transaction has to go through them instead of user to user, unlike many other changes, THIS change will in fact be a true blunder and will turn off many users, myself included.

Ultimately it will come down to many people finally realizing and saying; "we were fine before Ebay, we'll be fine without them".

I agree, with the fees I am now paying I could easily open up a brick and mortar business..........

Those Themes promotions are total BS They lead straight into some corporate sponsorship high priced items.

I clicked to go look at the Valentines Themed section. It was "Dream Vacations" and some incredibly high priced jewelery items.

Both of these items were from companies not Ebayers.

That dream Vacation was like $4,000 and the diamond bracelette was almost as much and nothing else was pointed to.

Not even the Valentines Category in special occassions.

Nothing normal sellers were selling.

Why does that not surprise me? LOL

eBay just does more and more, don't they?

I wonder how many sellers would be willing, right now, to give up their profit for the next, say, two to three weeks, and move all their auctions to another site. You know, if the merchandise went, the buyers would have to follow. Just a thought.

And that's THE problem, Polly! The other problems are no other sites are advertising the way ebay does and we don't stick together. A lot of us have moved things to other sites but until we ALL move to ONE site, we just aren't going to make a bit of difference.

your right the only way to get their attention is for everyone to move to the same site, but it's still hard to think about not listing on ebay at all, and that is where they get you.

also if they change to a half.com structure they get paid first and we get what is left after they have take their cut/fees. they don't have to worry about some big seller, powerseller or otherwise, not paying their bill at the end of the month because their CC was no good. Also they don't have to worry about a few thousand sellers getting together and running charge backs for the last three months because you don't feel the service that was paid for was provided.

What do you think THAT'S all about? E-checks?

What happens to Billpoint if eBay offers a payment service "with no fees"??????????

if you want a preview of things to come check out half.com. ebay/half collects the fees for you and then forwards you your share of your money..........

airguy,

But half.com absorbs the CC fees by taking a bigger cut of your sale.

I can't see eBay absorbing CC transaction fees without taking MORE of the seller's money than they're already taking, but it says, "With no fees!"

Something doesn't sound right here.

I bet ebay makes more in listing and relisting fees on item that don't sale than half does even with their high fees. if ebay collects the monies and only cuts you a check or transfers your balance say once or twice a month don't you think they could be racking up the bucks on interest? I hope that is the case, PayPal in the beginning said that they were to make their monies off the interest on the float of the monies they had on deposit at any given time and they said it was a lot of money. I'm sure it is a viable business model especially if you new that you had the monies say until the end of the week or 1st and the 15th of every month. also you can bet that if ebay takes the volume to the CC companies they will be paying something on the order of about no transaction fees and .005%. I've posted several time on these boards our CC fee are less than PayPal charges, about 2/3rd less. so I'm sure ebay will get it for next to nothing.

Actually, if you click on the link in the original email, you'll find that it takes you to a Billpoint page where they clearly state that fees start at 35 cents. So I don't know what's with that "no fees" thing.

Does this no links outside of eBay mean: No Link to PayPal? No link To the “My Feedback” report site?

eBay will NOT force me to use their payment systems, or their photo systems. Over a year ago, I learned eBay wasn’t the only game in town, and until Yahoo got totally stupid, we posted there exclusive of eBay and doubled our sales. Even with the mess at Yahoo, I think it is time to check Yahoo back out – I will NOT be forced into use any of these in house systems, be it though eBay , Yahoo, etc.

For those who are unaware of it, AW has a list of the top 100 auction sites. Particularly, while we are in the slower summer months, start checking out these other sites, give them time to produce for you, and realize eBay will only get worse - sooner or later most buyers will feel the need to change, might as well start testing other markets/sites now.

By the way, beyond AW's list of the top 100 Auction sites, you might try going to any of the major search engines and searching for an auction which handles your specialty items. We did that, and discovered to large niche auction houses, one of which we have done lots of sales through, and who allow us to promote our web sites to the hilt - in fact they have information on their site on how to include your website links. Neither of these niche sites was on the AW top 100 list, but the folks who buy/collect such items seem to know about these niche auction houses and buy and buy.

Having all one's eggs in one basket is asking for problems.

The humorous thing about these SPAM emails from ebay is that they go to NARU users. This is like inviting suspended users back to the site. Go ebay.
