In the last 18 months I've read the posts here and elsewhere about eBay's gradual restriction on "extrasite" buyer and seller contacts and the possible change to a half.com type selling and compensation format. I am not a lawyer, but I've wondered about the legality of some of eBays actions. Does anyone know if the DOJ or FTC has taken an interest in eBay? What about state agencies? A legal line will be crossed somewhere, sometime and eBay will no longer be a "de facto" factor(sorry), but a "de jure" factor. I can imagine that eBay will find a heap o' trouble if a judge or jury decides that they are not "merely" a venue, but an active partner in millions of transactions involving millions of people who think of themselves as individualists.
And what about eBay outside the USA? Many countries around the world, especially in the European Union, have stronger privacy and consumer protection laws than the USA. How are eBay users outside the USA reacting to the new restrictions? Do these restrictions and new policies apply outside the USA at all? Are the various national governments examining eBay's actions?
Thanks for taking the time to write to us at eBlech!

Ebay Stops being a venue When It starts to benfit by makeing a return on the ITems you sell then they become a patern with an interest in your earnings.
ummm Hmmm well they do collect final value fee percentages now so they do have a valued interest in my items selling.
Ebay isn't really a venue they have been parterns in selling every item for some time now.
all that is left is for the goverment to feel they are ready to wrangle with another large company a matter of time a week a month a few years it will happen. http://www.Dman-N-Company.com

eBay hasn't been "just a venue" for quite some time. Not since they hired a big gun DC lawyer who keeps the "venue" issue right at the line and makes sure eBay doesn't cross it, legally..
