Reading the no-link announcement, it refers to linking to your web site off of the ebay sell item page.

Can you tell viewers you have a web site? and give the address if it is not an active link?

Something like

"For more items like this please visit my web site at www.xxxx.com "

To me, this is text, not link.
What are other opinions?

Thanks.

barrelracer,

I'm fairly sure your wording would be acceptable. As I understand it, non-link plugs can be up to 10 words in length.

I'm no expert on the new rules, though. With all their waffling about what was/wasn't allowed, I finally sent PS a link to one of my auctions and asked them to let me know if I was in compliance or not! (Had to make two changes.)

Unfortunately, no, I don't think you can say that, or even have a non-clickable link.

If I can find where the pinks on Ebay say that, I'll post it.

Also, the wording of "For more items like this please visit my web site" is not allowed, since it solicits Ebayers to visit your site.

I once had the words "For other great horse items, please visit xxxx.com" I got a visit from the "ebay police" and was warned not to have that wording in my auctions.

You cannot embed your site into your photos unless your site is your user ID. I recently changed my user ID to read mt .com address.

How about a non-link statement that says:

"This auction brought to you by flyingpickle.com"

No reference to a website. No refernce to non eBay related products. No link.

What do you think? Allowable?

Can anyone point to the ebay page where this is stated? I don't find it in the "Links Policy Clarification"

Thanks to all for your suggestions/advice.

I understand the concern about eBay monopolizing online auctions but I don't understand all the concern/complaints about their no links policy.

Yahoo Auctions does not allow links to your website. And I would bet most of the free auction sites will not allow links as soon as they have enough traffic to charge fees.

I've been encouraging sellers to look for alternatives for years, but the link policy is really nothing new. Just another reminder that eBay is calling the shots and they have little cause for concern if sellers approve or not.

I hope eBay drives ALL the low volume sellers to the other sites. I would love to see eBay pay the price for their arrogance. But I don't believe this is what eBay is trying to do.

sasoony

The Yahoo policy is new, only a few months ago Yahoo allowed about anything, then when they brought in the charges, they started turning the screws, and look what happened to their site - they lost about 80% of their sellers.

We left, although now we are posting again there in a VERY limited way, and we are linking, although it is not a totally obvious link.

My feeling regarding eBay and Yahoo is that these "new rules" are not part of their user agreement, and as long as I can work around them I will. I didn't agree to not link, and I will continue to link till I get stopped....of course probably not as obviously as we have done in the past.

On smaller sites we link at all of them with no problem. I wouldn't mess with a small site that refused to allow me to link.

Careful with those nonobvious links you may wake up to find your auctions cancelled.

I think you could say I am a reliable seller (not as hokey but you get this point I am trying to make) I have a up and going web site that I can't mention here email me for address or it's called horse works. Most people could figure it out.
Also I don't think these new sites which I hope are looking at all these posts would dare make the same mistake as Ebay with the links deal. Just too big a deal. Ebay advertised their exchanged links to Ebayers then they bite you in the butt with no I don't want to play anymore.

Relax,You have entered the twighlight zone...

You have no website. In fact, you no longer have a name, email address or identity. You are part of no banner programs and no longer have direct contact with any of us. You will herein be referred to as "me". You a among the many "pods" that are part of eBay's new world - The eBay Matrix.

I have in my hand two pills, a red one and a blue one. Take the red one and you'll forget everything, including this board message. Take the blue one and I'll show you the way things really are in the world of the eBay Matrix.

Nope--not trying to get rid of ALL small sellers, only the ones who list low-dollar items. A few months back Meg herself said the nickel increase in listing fees was to help rid the site of 'clutter'. I wasn't the only person who read and/or saw this statement, either. It was in a televised interview as well as in a story on Fortune.com's website (story seems to be gone now). Honestly, I was shaking my head over it.

Make the website address into an image and put it on the top of your listings..dont make it clickable..just something people can read.

The passage you're looking for is from the Trust & Safety Board. It comes from a pink named Daphne.
Here's the link to the entire discussion. The exact exchange is several messages in.

Barrelracer:

Here are a few things I found over at Ebay:

http://remarq.ebay.com/ebay/transcript.asp?g=&tn=10000000&sh=02562211d72d53e1&str=links&idx=0

A part of that same thread, (message 37) is where Daphne says you cannot watermark your photos with your url and that you cannot advertise your site at all, even in plain text form.

Edited due to incorrect URL

I hope that helps.

Thank you vargas and kidsfeet. I am in the process of reading those links now.

From what I gather so far, only in the support boards interpretation is all the no text, no image watermarking stated?

In the ebay announcement http://www2.ebay.com/aw/marketing.shtml

and the supporting text http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-list.html#ads

nothing like that is stated. All I see is reference to links.

So what ebay is really saying is they want no mention, no hint, of an exsisting web site on your View Items page.

If this is so, then when they use the word link that throws me off. I think of a link as a clickable word or sentence that takes you to another page. Saying "No links" to me would mean no clickable links.

Thank you for looking up those "links" for me!

You're welcome, barrelracer.

eBay's lack of mastery of the English language is amazing, isn't it?

There'd be so much less confusion among its users if eBay would hire someone to edit changes to its users' agreement.

A clear TOS is a must.

I believe the link policy is that you CAN LINK from your ME page only and even then there are some restrictions. Such as not selling items lower than you do on ebay.
