There has been a "theory" floating around on these boards that a person can avoid a retalitory neg if they file a NPB complaint before they leave the neg, well i am here to tell ya that its a BOGUS theory.

I filed a npb on 2 auctions for the same deadbeat, no pay, loser over 10 days ago and neg'd both auctions today and guess what, i now have 2 retalitory negs to show for it. so that kicks the t5heory youy will protect yourself if you file a NPB first.

now i would have neg'd anyway because i ALWAYS give due negs but this time i decided to test the theory.......

so all who think thay will skate heres the truth, ruth.

Sorry for your bad luck.
What post gave you that idea?
I know there is a proposal in one thread, but, nothing hard and fast.

I too had a deadbeat bidder who bid on two auctions and never replied to any of my emails nor to the NPB notice. After a month of no payment and no response I finally gave the person a NEG F/B on both stating just what happened... no response, no payment.

They retaliated with NEG F/B for ME on both auctions!

I had written to eBay and Safe Harbor regarding the retaliatory feedback and their response was: "it IS against our rules... but we can do nothing about retaliatory feedback".

EXCUSE ME?? WHERE is the protection for the seller here??

When there is PROOF that the other person is the one at fault...WHY can't eBay protect it's sellers by REMOVING retaliatory f/B?????!!

Just my opinion! <g>

i can't give you the thread(s) number but i know i have read several commewnts about making sure you file a npb before negging to protect yourself. i doubted the validity of the claim and i now know for sure......as i stated its no biggie to me but i just wanted the truth to be known.......

ebay has given us a place to respond. Anyone that can't tell when fb is retaliatory isn't really reading.

There's another site in existence that removes negative/neutral feedback if requested and that has negated the meaning of the fb system completely. They're to the point of holding auctions for feedback now. If ebay starts cowering and bending to this, beware.

PS I think the people have been saying that if you're the fourth person to leave a neg for nonpayment, they will be bounced before they have a chance to retaliate. However, if you wait til the last minute on the 89th day (or is it 59th?) to neg someone, they cannot neg you back. I don't listen. I don't care if they do or not. As I said, there's a place to respond.

That is a silly theory. That would mean nobody could leave feedback if a NPB or FVF was unjustly filed. They may mean if the person gets NARU'd by you filing FVF
But no such rule exists.

There is a big problem with this theory. Many buyers won't go to the trouble of reading the actual feedback comments and responses. They just look at the feedback profile and see a big honking red neg.

There is NO way to avoid a retaliatory neg. I do leave leave negs but I leave them when the risk/reward ratio makes it worth it. Negging deadbeats doesn't cut it. It's all risk and zero potential reward for the seller (except for the satisfaction of leaving the neg).

ebaY could easily fix this problem. They could give bidders an automatic administrative neg when a seller files for FVF refund. Seller AND bidder would then be blocked from leaving any further feedback on the transaction. Bidder could then be given a length of time to provide proof of payment in order to have the neg removed (and the seller punished for falsely filing FVF.
