I don't understand most sellers. Why must shipping be so hard for them? I can understand a .25-.50 handleing charge added on to their shipping. But they want to charge outrageous shipping charges. For example I went on Ebay to check out the competion on a cell phone I am going to sell on auction. I wanted to check prices. So I click on the auction and guess what the shipping for standard mail is $10-$15. I am selling the same thing and a little more to mine and can ship it Priority mail for $3.95. I asked ebay this and their response Don't like it Don't bid on it. I think somthing should be done about this!!

Smile and highlight the shipping charge on your auction. Then, sit back and enjoy the bids the other guy is missing

Shipping and handleing is not really that bad on most auction on ebay.

$10 to $15 is mild for shipping charges for a Cell Phones compared to the shipping rates on some website for these phones.

I agree myself that much for shipping is alot but is is under the standard most companies charge.

Go to staples web site or office depot search for an item that is $5 to $8 you will find unless you order $60 worth of goods or more your shipping will be $20.

Look at the music clubs get 12 Cds for free all you pay is shipping thats right BUT guess what Shipping on your free Item is $42.75

Try buying from most popular mail order companies where order from $1 to $9.99 is $14.35 for shipping.

And if that isnt enough check out the shipping handleing and insurance they change on eBay Premier.

most retailers and wholesalers use UPS ,not USPS,one good reason is that THEY CANT AFFORD TO HAVE AN EMPLOYEE STAND IN LINE AT THE POST OFFICE!!!!!!
employees are paid to work ,not stand in line.

I have both accounts and They can use a online shipping with UPS or one that has a USPS shipping where you print your labels from your computer and when post man comes he pick em up I think it is $14 or so a month to ship! Naw their shipping charges are not justable to me hwahwahwahwa. But thanks for sticking up for them.

I have the USPS rate card right here. For Priority mail the charge is $10.25 per occurrence. I will continue to stand in line.
I sell expensive police flashlights and start the bidding at $9.99. I charge shipping of $8.00. The actual cost to ship to the high bidder is $5.15 but I have to pay shipping two ways, UPS 3 days to me and USPS Priority to my high bidder. I don't make money on shipping. I used to explain this in all my auctions when I had my one complaint about it but have removed it from most of my auctions.
These flashlights retail for $149.00+ and sell on ebay at just above cost(most of the time). I don't know of any other way to cover my extra shipping costs. The profits don't cover it and If I started bidding at $15.00 or $25.00 The willing bids would be the same as they are now.
Other sellers start their auctions at $75.00 to cover all their shipping expenses and make a little profit but almost nobody every bids on their auctions.

Customers almost never complain about paying half off retail at eBay. But they read the shipping fees with a magnifying glass, making sure no one is out to cheat them. Yes, I think a $10 handling fee is too much. And no, I wouldn't bid on it. But if you want to call the tune, you gotta pay the piper.

Put the words LOW SHIP COST in your auction title, that should draw some bids away from the competition:

New XXXXX Cell-Phone LOW SHIP COST!

I saw a nice doll a while back that I wanted to buy for my kid. It was about three or four bucks. The seller wanted $5 to ship it (would have cost at most $2 to ship first class), plus two dollars for insurance. (That's two dollars to insure a $3 item!) The shipping costs totalled about twice the cost of the item. I was pretty PO'ed and almost sent the seller a flame email to advise her that she missed a deal. Eventually I found the same doll at a Walgreen's drug store and bought it for about $2 less.

Seller has doll for $3 or $4. Cost of shipping $5 plus $2 insurance. How heavy was the doll? $2 is high for insurance, but if the doll was heavy, $5 is not. Walgreens had the same doll for $2 less? Meaning the doll must have retailed for $9?

A lot of times people will pay the extra shipping and insurance because they can't leave the house due to disabilities and it's worth it to them to pay a couple of extra dollars. If you see something on auction that you know you can buy in a store, and you can get out, go buy it. I wouldn't complain to the seller. Flame letters to sellers just don't do it. We usually laugh them off.

Also, please remember it's not the final bid that determines the shipping. That's based on weight. 2 lbs costs around $3.90 to ship priority mail. It goes up from there. Insurance is based on the final value.

My biggest complaint is bidders who bid $2 then don't want to pay shipping because they think shipping is based on the bid. I say, go to the post office and ask how much something a certain weight will cost to ship. Do some footwork yourself, instead of blaming the seller.

Rather than complaining about your OPINION about excessive S&H.....

Get yourself a bat
Sit in the middle of the floor.
Say to yourself slowly "If I think the shipping is too high I do not have to bid"
Then smack yourself in the head with the bat.
Repeat this as many times as it takes to sink in

I sold a heavy old glass refridgerator dish for 3 dollars and charged 8 dollars for shipping. The customer was un happy about the shipping cost and did not insure because she said the shipping cost was too much already. Well it cost me 11 dollars to ship without insurance and the dish broke. I had no idea that it would cost that much to ship and have since become wiser and insisted on insurance on glass items and have added a bit more for shipping so I won't estimate too low.

My wife charges $1 per $100 of insurance plus a $.50 service fee. Why? Because her third-party insurance provider charges it. Using a third party, she doesn't have to go to the PO and stand in line for insured packages. She just takes them to the counter and drops them off.
