Maybe you sellers can help me on a problem I woke up to this morning.
Last week I sold a Playstation game, was paid via paypal, and shipped right away. The guy emails me this morning, says he just got the game and it has a crack in it. According to him the box and the packaging looked fine but the game is cracked.
The problem is, this was a game that belonged to our family since it was new. We had just played it not too long ago and it worked fine. I inspected it for the description and said there were some visible scratches but that the game worked okay.
I don't normally sell in this area and any complaint I have received so far, I have refunded the money on. But this guy paid quite abit in my opinion for this game. It would be so easy to break it once you got it if you didn't like it. It would also be easy to switch the good game with a bad game. Of course I didn't mark it in anyway to verify it's the same cd.
What should I do? Refund or what. I haven't contacted him back yet. He has a feedback of 4 (one of them mine of course). When he won the game he said he was happy because he had been looking for that game a long time.

If you decide to refund, insist (politely) the game be returned to you. Something like the following:
Dear XXX,
I'm sorry you were disappointed in the game and am glad to work with you on this. Please return the game to me at the following address (address). Once I receive the game w/my seller identification marks intact, I'll gladly refund your money.
HE doesn't have to know you don't have identification marks on it. If he's trying to "switch" it, then he might think twice about trying to return it.
If the game did indeed somehow become cracked, then you can make your own decision about the amount of refund.

Thanks, eventer.
I knew that - somehow I just get thrown for a loop when something like this happens. You would think by now I would know what to do (980 feedback). All of the sudden, I could just imagine the ol' switcharoo or buyer's remorse! It is a crappy game, IMHO.

ADD THE FOLLOWING
- w/my seller identification marks intact, which are not visible to the naked eye. If they are on the item returned, I'll gladly refund your money.

Just fyi, if they mean, by "package', the jewel case the PXS games normally come in, and if that isn't broken, I'd be VERY suspicious. I've had cds broken in the mail before (rarely), but in those cases the jewel cases broke as well.

That is my concern. He says the box is fine. It is not a jewel case but it is a nice deluxe box that some PSX games come in. More durable than even a jewel case. It just stikes me as suspicious.
edited because I can't spell.

I agree with that ^^^^ statement as a general rule. Somehow, tho, this seems suspect. I sent the guy an email to the effect that send it back to me for inspection of my mark etc. I haven't heard from him yet.

The switcheroo is a scam that literally makes my stomach sick.
I would definitely take eventer's advice. They may decide not to chance it if they think you have a marking on the CD.

I still haven't heard from him so maybe he is rethinking. I took the advice that I received from eventer this morning. Maybe it truely is a scam.

The customer is not always right. eBay sellers have to search for the truth. They are not multi million dollar B&M outfits that can afford to take the buyers word without question. Most of us have a small profit margin and if you know the condition of your items before you ship you have to question a situation like this. I think the "secret mark" is a very good idea. Keep us posted, it would be interesting to see how this plays out.

I will keep you posted.
By the way - how do I really mark things? Is there a pen or how do you guys do it? It might be a good idea to start doing this.

rainbowman, email me & I will send you the user ID of a seller on eBay that sells the pens & black light as a set for about 13.00 postage included. The same set in a catalog I have is 30.00
[email protected]
The pen makes an invisible mark & when you shine the black light on it the mark glows & is very visible.
