I just got my first complaint about not taking Paypal (after many months), and the customer even went so far as to suggest that I should offer it, and if I didn't want to pay the fees, to pass it along to my customers.

I'm just venting here, but I'm offering items, and in many cases selling, very cheaply. I couldn't even survive if I didn't get the stuff even cheaper. Oh, but raise the opening bid by a little and forget it. A no sale.

So, he wins two nice vintage but unused USA made pieces for a measley 6.25 each, and even a lesser quality modern-made in China or USSR one would cost perhaps $12 each today, if ordered through a brick and mortar store. Then he complains that Achex was too much work for him, I should take Paypal, yada yada.

One has to start somewhere, if you are worried at all about keeping the cost of business down. For me, Paypal is expendable.

I don't need it. Bid or don't, but don't complain about my terms after the fact.

Your buyer sounds like a small minority of my RW customers....

I call them niglers....always angling for something, whether it be a lower price, something extra for the same price or unreasonable service....

Feel comfortable in your choice not to accept Paypal....most functioning adults can write a check or pick up a money order at the PO...personally, I just get a bank check when making my deposits....no waste of time at all...

I just hope your buyer doesn't neutral or neg you for this imagined slight...

Vent on.....!

Neutral or neg? I seriously doubt it. But I can sure see him leaving no feedback to teach me a lesson, just because.

It has occured to me though, that if the complainer wouldn't have bid, that I wouldn't have even made the $6.25 each on the things.

I have had some complaints and my standard answer is "when paypal no longer charges me i will embrace it". I really think many people just want the 5 dollar head hunter reward if they can get you to sign up.

I always wonder what bidders are thinking when I hear/read stuff like this. It's your business, and if they want your items, they shouldn't hassle you about your terms.

I like the convenience of PayPal, but people not taking it only ever affects my bidding on really high end items because I'd like the protection my cc offers. But for small items, I don't see why anyone would complain (and I don't complain on the high things, I just don't bid).

No matter what you do, someone will b*tch about something:
Your tos is too long
Your tos is too short
Your shipping is too high
You ship media and it's too slow
You said the item was 19" tall, and it's 18-15/16" tall
Your description is too long
Your description is too short
and on
and on
and on

Don't freak, some people are just miserable human beings, and they need to share that misery. Venting is good!

i wanted to add something. the service charges at both ends of the deal. if a seller can bring business to such a service then they should get paid by the service , not the seller paying them! its parasitic

More complaints I've read on at AW

All caps in the title
LOOK in the title
LQQK in the title
WOW in the title
No Reserve in the title
Pics too big
Pics too small

I have some complaints once in a while too, but of course, mine are always legit.

loosecannon,

About those CAPS - my eyes seem to skip titles that are all in caps. It's weird, I don't dislike them or anything, I just find myself having to go back and reread them because they didn't register.

Maybe some mild form of dyslexia? Uppercaseaphobia?

I got so tired of hearing all the whining about not having PayPal - that I went ahead and included it again - this time I added on an extra 30 cents on the shipping charges - which takes care of the PayPal charges and now everyone is happy!

From PayPal:

"Users can't directly charge someone PayPal fees, but they could add to the shipping/handling costs. They just can't state, in specifics, that they buyer has to pay the PayPal fees."

Adding to your handling fee is fine; telling them it's a surcharge is not. So, in essence PayPal is telling us to lie to our customers.
LOL!

I usually have about 250 auctions ending through the week and get about 2 or 3 actual complaints that I do not take paypal, but take credit cards through my own secured server.

There seems to be always one of these bidders that will find it oh so inconvienent to mail a check or money order, usually making me write them again asking where payment is, then a week later or so will send me a check. These are invariably the same people that then need the item in 2 days for a gift.

The only time they really get on my nerves is after I send them the EOA, which states "No PayPal" and then they ask if I take it or my account at paypal.

~Not barrelracer on ebay, don't pick on them!~

The complaining buyer was probably another seller in a hurry to relist
