Dear Auctionwatch:

Well, I'm steamed at you!

Just launched a bunch of auctions, that part is great!

However, when you click on one of my photos to get the larger version, 2 things happen:

1. A bloody awful HUGE obnoxious banner for your stupid C2IT promotion is running across the ENTIRE TOP of the page. I don't support that #@%*/ promotion or company, I don't want to advertise it, and being Canadian, I seriously doubt it even applies.

2. Beneath that, there is a LINK to TRACK THIS AUCTION AT AUCTIONWATCH.COM --- I updated my AW preferences yesterday and opted NOT to have auctions tracked, so I really do not like seeing this promoted on my auctions!

But my main beef is that C2IT crap.

I'm not paying for junk like that, I'm paying for a service to help sell my eBay items, and that's the end of it.

DO US A FAVOR & GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, THIS STINKS!

Please remove that un-requested and very un-desired C2IT banner, I simply do not want eye-Spam like that on my auctions, it is only going to tick off my potential bidders.

Fine I will do that, too, however this is an EBAY discussion forum & you are doing something that affects my EBAY AUCTION, so it is obviously appropriate to post in The eBay Outlook. It is something that affects obviously large numbers of your customer's eBay auctions, and maybe I am not the only person to find it offensive. The other forums do not get the readership I would speculate that this one does, but have it your way.

Have they included banner ads on the images in the past or is this new? I can understand it on free image hosting, but if you're paying for the image hosting it is awkward.

I just went and checked out some of those auction pics with the C2it banners....and to tell you the truth....I wouldn't be too upset.

I, like many people, just don't even notice that stuff any more.

I have clicked on tons of auctionwatch hosted pics lately (on Ebay) and it was only until just now they I even realized that banner was there!!

Believe me, few will care....or even notice for that matter (to the misfortune of those whose banners they are).

Don't worry too much about it. If AW doesn't end it eBay will.

This is something eBay will point to when we are all forced to use eBay's picture hosting service.

I found it obnoxious, too.

Mostly because the banner is at the TOP of the page, above the pic.

If anything, it should be BELOW the pic, so it does not distract the bidder from the picture.

I am sure that when Ebay catches wind of it, it will stop.

I'm just curious as to why anyone would allow a company's software to advertise ANYTHING on THEIR auction when they are paying for the use of that software?

This is expected when you use so-called "free" software but NOT when you're paying for it. I don't know of any industry, other than online auctions, that uses this practice and that's the reason I prefer to own the software outright or do things myself. The online auction sellers are being used and manipulated and I'm real tired of it. Maybe it's time to say "NO", I'm not going to take it anymore!!

UPRIVER, to avoid the banner, in the future you might consider placing photos without the *click image to view larger version* link. This may or may not be a viable option for you, depending on your personal photo preferences, photo program capabilities, etc.

I checked my auction (AW) and the banner doesn't show, nor do I use the *track your auction* link. I checked an auction of a friend who uses *view larger*...saw the banner and track auction. I checked another of a power seller whose auction is FILLED with links. The AW *view larger* pic link takes me to an error page *HTTP ERROR...403.2 FORBIDDEN*. Yikes! maybe she has too many auction links.

Just my personal preference, I don't use the *view larger* option. I like my auctions to be as user friendly as possible (no additional clicking), good clear fast-loading photos, thorough description w/shipping amt, no TOS (haven't needed one in my 2 1/2 yrs), a professional, pleasant presentation. My Mavica can photograph tiny pottery flaws and silver hallmarks way bigger than life-size and still load fast without *clicking links*.

I'm a small seller and know my methods are not for everyone and I certainly have nothing against clicking others' auction pics for viewing. If I were a huge lister or seller of clothing, CDs, electronics, etc., you can bet I'd have a TOS!

I agree with DAVID 2001...We are so accustomed to banners EVERYWHERE on the web, we hardly notice them. BUT...this is YOUR personal auction in discussion and if you're offended, shocked and angered by a *surprise* banner, you have a genuine complaint. We sellers work very hard and don't need additional stresses.

My experience with AW for over a year has been ALL GOOD! They don't pay me to cheer and I doubt they could buy a decent lunch from my account. eBay and PayPal get the big chucks!

beachbound,

That is good information & I will certainly look into it, will check out the preferences page to see how I can do that & will do at least 1 auction in a 1-page format (no click to larger pic) to see the comparison & which viewing format works best with me.

You know, I wouldn't even have a complaint with AW if they had a small banner or advert on the 2nd photo screen for THEMSELVES, but when you get something intrusive & offensive from a company you had not even heard of until a few days before, that sucks.

EVEN IN e-BUSINESS LAND, there are some business practices that are just plain WRONG.

And messin' around with your paying customers stuff is one of them.

Frist of all it is bogus for people who paid the yearly fee they are paying Upwords of $200 for webspace on AW there should be no advertizeing banner attched to it at all.

People paying per auction many are paying more then $200 per year .

all are paying a percentage on sales as I understand it.

I got 50 Meg of webspace for one year for $36 no banners ads or advertizeing.

"I'm just curious as to why anyone would allow a company's software to advertise ANYTHING on THEIR auction when they are paying for the use of that software? "

Exactly. Software companies get away with because no one knows how to boycott or voice their displeasure anymore. When you do you get labeled a whiner.

Ebay wants $15.99 a MONTH for the former Auction Assistant Pro now called the Sellers Assistant Pro and in the new version, unlike the old, you do not get to see your raw html right before it's posted to Ebay. So there is no way to remove the "This auction posted by Ebay Sellers Assistant Pro". Excuse me?
MY auction that I am PAYING for and I'm FORCED to display an advertisement for software that I am paying an inflated price for monthly? Do I get a cut of the new subscribers revenue? No! Can anyone imagine paying a newspaper for a classified ad and having the newspaper stick a "special on home delivery call today" line at the bottom of your ad?

If you check the Auction Manager Forum link now, you will see that AW has responded to this with an apparently good decision.
