I was wondering, how many times do you list an item? I usually only list it twice. If it doesn't sell the first time, I lower the price and relist right away. It it doesn't sell the second time it's off to the consignment store or in my next gagage sale.

Everything I've listed has sold by the second listing... but that may change.
Back in January I sold a widget for nearly $50... I got another of the same widget recently and listed it for $20 - didn't get any bids, so I relisted it for $13 - It still has 3 days to go, but no bids. I can't afford to list it for any less.
If it doesn't sell I will just hang on to it until closer to Christmas and hope things pick up by then.

This is a good thread...I am curious.
I usually sell first pass, but am on a third listing on group of items.
I think my dilema was that I didn't know the price and went too high.
Live and learn!

it depends on the item if it is a good item I may relist twice if no takers rewrite the ad take difffernt pictures maybe two catagries and try a couple of more times
if its a small $10 or so item two times and then maybe combine
I have had lots of items go two or three times and then a couple of bidders get on it and it goes, goes, goes.
you always got to remeber ebay is a auction ,you need at least two peaple intersted to go anywhere and it is a flowing community not evryone signs on and searches weekly or evan monthly
always new buyers checking in

I list once, then if it doesn't sell, I usually relist at half the opening bid, with a BIN equal to the original opening bid. After that, I might list it as part of a "box lot" with similar items. If there's no similar items, it gets tossed in the box for the flea market.

I've listed a few items twice. The only reason I've ever relisted is when the buyer fails to pay. A $1.00 opening bid with no reserve on an item with a strong market has never failed to get positive results. For every 1 item that sells for less than I thought it would I get 2 items that sell for more than I thought it would.
Depends on what you are selling and how you are selling it.

Usually twice. And when I list for less the second time the bidding usually (but not always) exceeds my opening bid amount from the first time around.
I recently listed some dresses, though, which didn't get bids. They were low-priced enough that relisting them for a lower price wouldn't be worth it. I'll just give them to Goodwill and take the tax writeoff.

With my trading cards, I usually list and relist and keep relisting as long as there is some traffic through my auctions. My last batch of 55 all closed without bids - relisted, and still no bids so far.
I'm seriously thinking of taking all my single cards over to half.com and trying things out over there, and just keeping complete sets and plushes on Ebay - I can add a link to my half.com listings without violating the powers that be link ban...

I list my glass twice - at least 6 months apart. Then back to basement it goes. It might be resurrected in a year or two. But while it is down there, it doesn't eat any bread!

Depending on the item I relist multiple times. Most anything will sell once you find the right buyer, whether it is worth it in listing fees is another matter.
I've even increased with each listing to cover listing fees and sold on relist you just never know.
I recently relisted an item three times with no bites but a lot of hits, I relisted again and a couple of people started fighting over it and it went higher than I ever expected. The only time I truly give up on something is it gets no hits.

katiyana,
ballcards don't do well during this time of year.
If they're football cards, the best time to sell them is around August/September when the season is starting up and then right after the superbowl (winning team). I usually buy cards around the slower time because I get a bargain and sell during hot spells.
The start of season on the sports is the best time to sell any ballcards and at the end of championships (sell the champions).

HI Everyone,
I always list twice, typically selling the second time around. I too look at the number of hits to determine if another go round is warranted and sometimes I just "weigh" out the item and if I think SOMEONE out there is going to want it. Amazingly, often when I lower the price for the relist, it goes higher than I wanted the first time around. Makes me wonder about those who start bids at 1 cent or $1. but I just don't have the gusto to try it out!

Not really, all you need is one worried, nervous bidder and a good BIN for him to chomp on.

point taken on BIN I don't use it 'couse one of the things I really enjoy is seeing a item bring two to three times more than I would ever expect and sometimes than it is worth.
I had a item I used to sell regularly sell one and relist every week they usally sold in the 35 to 45 dollar range I had one bring 100.00 and another bring 75.00 never would have happened with BIN need two or more determined not to be outbid.

Redskinfan -
Should have been more specific - I deal in Pokemon trading cards, not sports cards. They are usually hottest right after a new set comes out and for several months afterwards - first the boxes and boosters, and then individual cards as people try to finish up sets.

My daughter loves pokemon.
I recently bought out several cases of pokemon and x-men starter/gift boxes. I'll be putting those up later on.
