Well, today was half-price day in our area at all the local Valu Village stores. I headed out early, made it to 4 stores by about 1pm before I ran out of steam -- and others a bit too distant.
So at the last store I made an excellent book find, got a copy of the Alcoholics Anonymous book, 1st edition, 14th printing of July 1951 in very good condition.
Looking at eBay, a 1950 13th 1st went for $344.00 recently, and a 1954 16th 1st went for $362.00, and a 14th like mine went for $339.00, at least 2 of those were "Reserve Not Met", they all had dustjackets, mine doesn't.
Well it was priced at 99 cents & I got it for half of that, so I guess I have some profit room in this one! Made my day, I'll tell ya!

Sure wish I had you here in Central Ohio. We have a hospital volunteer group that holds a book sale every spring.
There are thousands, and I do mean thousands of books that are donated each year (upper crust college town).
The sale is held for 3 days. Day 1 all hardback books $2.00
Day 2 all hardback books $1.00
Day 3 all hardback books 50 cents.
I never know what to look for. I bought 2 bags, and while they have all sold on ebay and I will get my money back with just selling 1 or 2, no sleepers here.
I did find 2 1948 McCalls needlework magazines for .25 each though. They should do alright I think.
Good luck with your book.

Hi upriver,
Wish I could say the same. I went to my value village and man that stuff was SO overpriced, even at half price. I picked up a mans belt and it was $9.99. Shoot I can get a new one at Wal Mart for that much and my husband doesn't care what they look like as long as they hold his pants up. :0)
Kids T-shirt was $4.99! (Ratty looking at that!) And on and on-- you get the idea.
Yikes-- too much for me.
I did find a few books just to read (and probably throw on ebay afterwards too), but overall out half price sale was a big BUST! Glad you did good anyway and good luck on the AA book!

We went down to a great Value Village yesterday and got a ton of great stuff. However, today wasn't as good. But we are not giving up and will be to a couple more stores tomorrow. There is usually at least one great treasure to be found.
