Just talked to the folks at Boomspeed. Their site is actually working BUT all the internet services in and out of Houston (which is where they are located) including UUNET, NCI and QUEST are down. They have places with 30 feet of water and are in a disaster area declaration. There are units trying to restore internet access in higher ground areas, but that is going to take some time. The National Guard has been called out. - Rosalinda
PS - we have NO affiliation or connection with Boomspeed - just doing our job of diseminating info to OAI/OTI users

I live in Houston. I have never seen anything like this in my life. Some people will be spending another night on their roof tops. The National Guard is here. Please be patient with any buyers or sellers in this area. We didn't even have mail service today. It's that bad.

Karen:

Thanks for putting this disaster in human terms for us. When we are a long ways away, it doesn't always click--especially when you are approaching your later years as I am.

My Texas bidders will all get my understanding thanks to you.

Rosalinda - thanks for the information!

Boomspeed being unavailable is causing major problems with my auctions - but that's nothing compared to what the people in Houston are going through. I wish dry weather and sunshine for you folks!

That storm went the wrong direction. Central and south florida is in the worse drought in over 100 years, and our lakes and wells are drying up. (we had to drop our well 20 feet because it went dry and started sucking air. Our dock is about 35 feet from the shore of what's left of our lake) That much rain would have been miserable even here, but we NEED it.

Bush/Cheney will probably treat this the same way they handled California's Energy Crisis . . . call for building more boats and an aquaduct that moves the flood water from Texas to parched Florida.

Good luck to you!

My step-son is in Rye visiting his mom for the summer. I cannot get through via phone or e-mail. Do you know if that area was flooded badly? I tried calling a friend in Huntsville but no luck there either.

Thanks,
jandel

jandel -
This site has a lot of postings from people in the area - you might get some idea from this about where the phone outages, most damage, etc are -
