accept bids from people with private feedback? I currently have someone bidding on one of my auctions with a private feedback, and it makes me a little nervous. I like to know who I am dealing with, and if you can at least see their feedback it gives you SOME idea.

Entirely up to you. I don't.
You have the right to cancel any bids you do not feel comfortable with. Just make sure you cancel them before the auction ends and don't forget to blacklist the person so he/she cannot bid on any more of your auctions. Of course, they will not stop them from creating a new ID to do it.

What on earth is private feedback? The term makes no sense to me...does Ebay actualy have such a thing?

Yes they have private feedback. If you do not want someone to be able to view you feedback, you can make it private. You cannot pick and choose and only hide the bad stuff if you have it. You have to make it all or nothing.
Taken from eBay:
Make Feedback Changes Public or Private
You will probably want to make your Feedback Profile public because that generates trust and
increases the likelihood that other eBay members will do business with you. After all, you'd probably
want to see another member's Feedback Profile before you bought from them, right?
A private Feedback Profile, on the other hand, can only be accessed by you.

I accept bids from ALL bidders regardless of feedback.

Generally I won't cancel anyone's bids unless their last three have been no-pay negs - which usually means the FVF cycle just hasn't turned yet.
I've had a few private feedback people bid on my stuff, but it was awhile ago. I think you can see the number of pos and negs, right?
One reason for private: the person spends a lot of money on stuff and doesn't want spam from dealers who deal what they buy.
Another: people who buy fetish items. While you might still be able to search their bidding habits, it takes a while longer.

I've only had one bid from some with private FB, which was a couple of weeks ago, and they never contacted me. I've learned my lesson and will immediately cancel those if I see them in the future. I wish eBay had an option like Yahoo! to only accept bids from people with a certain FB rating...

The table still comes up on the private feedback, so you can see what their rating is but not the comments. I have had about three privates bid with me. All have had more than 200 positive feedbacks and no neg's. I have no idea why they chose to hide their feedback (and never asked) but all paid properly and were good to deal with.
Kind regards, Kevin

This person has 5 pos and 2 neg. I emailed them and asked them if they wanted to let me know why they made their feedback private, if not I will cancel their bids. Of course they can tell me anything they want, but I decided to give them a chance.

I never bid on a private feedback auction. I have asked sellers why their feedback is private and if I could see it. They don't respond, I don't bid.
If I had a bidder with private feedback, I would ask them for access to it, and if they don't respond, I would cancel it.
Some people may do adult auctions, and don't want that stuff known.

I had a newbie with private FB. He was just clueless and changed it when I inquired.
I do know a seller who had major obscene and personal stuff in her FB back in the days of non-transactional FB. eBay TOLD her to make it private or get an entirely new ID! They "couldn't" remove it. She made it private and her bidding went way down. Folks didn't ask and didn't bid. She finally had to chuck 500+ positive FB and start all over because of one whacko and eBay.
If you don't want spam in your "regular" e-mail just set up e-mail with HotMail or something similar and use it exclusively for those big $$ or fetish transactions. Of course you'll get all of those libido enhancing and "enlarging" spams but I rather think fetishists might find them amusing.
