I use IE and my auctions all format just fine using IE. I just happened to use Netscape at the library, and found that things look much bigger and uglier. Could anyone with Netscape/html experience give me a clue as to why things are so different? All I have is a table. Apparently, Netscape reverts my type to h1 typeface and eliminates the color font. The result is REALLY REALLY BIG TYPE. I've checked my tabs, and everything that opens does in fact close. I've heard Netscape can be more sensitive, but I've been pulling my hair and can't see anything "wrong" with the code.

All advice appreciated.

Yes, my name on eBay.

If the computer you are using doesn't have the font installed on it, it only shows the default typeface. That doesn't sound like what is happening here.
I think Netscape and IE use different types of HTML codes. For instance, my version of netscape won't recognise arial as a typeface. I use it all the time too!

You might want to simplify it, for instance:
<font size="3"> and let it go at that.
I would check your template for Netscape compatability using one of the many helpful sites out there, I like netmechanic.com myself, there are lots of them out there though.

Good luck!

Well, I think it's pretty darn plain code as it is. The intro is:

<"table cellpadding=9 border=1">
<"tr"><"td bgcolor=burlywood">

<"center"><"h1"><"font color=darkolivegreen"> TITLE<"/center"><"/h1"><"h2"><"center">More Words ~~ Retail Price $XX<"/h2">

After that, nothing more glamorous than <p>'s. Somehow, the text reverts to h1 and the color disappears.

I hope the code shows; just ignore the quotation marks.

I'll take a look at netmechanic, thanks fir the reference.

I'm a complete HTML ignoramous, but I've noticed a similar problem with my templates after I start a new paragraph.

I put a new font tag after each paragraph tag and it went away. That's with IE, though, but maybe worth a try.

I would have to agree with Sugar2912. I would completely do away with those <H1> etc tags, and replace with <font size=> instead. Netscape and IE have no problems recognizing <font size> tags.

I just pulled up one of your auctions. I just installed Netscape 6 on this computer and it looks fine, the same as on Internet Explorer. I also had some people tell me they couldn't view my auctions with Netscape that is why I loaded it to see what they were seeing. I think (and I could be dead wrong) that perhaps older versions of Netscape might be the problem. The library that you went to probably doesn't upgrade it's browsers too often. Next time I get an email about this I am going to ask them what version they have, or go to my library and take a look. But version 6 does look the same. Hope that helps. J

I just cancelled a heap of auctions because someone using netscape told me they couldn't view or bid on my auctions. I did a table in Front Page and copied the html, so there must be something there that Netscape doesn't like but works OK with IE and looks OK in the AW preview. I think all that was showing was the ebay section and then nothing after the description. I got rid of the table layout and now everything seems OK.

If you are using tables, and there is a problem viewing them in Netscape, then it's ONLY because you have left out one of the table tags. Netscape has NO problem viewing tables if they are coded correctly.

IE is forgiving of missing tags; Netscape is not. So if you have left out a <td> or </td> or <tr> or </tr> or the ending tag of </table> Netscape won't display the table at all.

There are some colours Netscape doesn't like and your browser will display either the closest colour, or a dithered (spotty) colour. The only way to ensure you are using one of the "acceptable" colors is to use a "browser safe" colour.
See link at http://www.geocities.com/~annabella/netscape.html

To get around the font code problems, you should use code it as follows: <font face="Arial,Helvetica,Verdana"> --- if your browser can't read Arial, it will go for the next name in the list.
