It finally happened.
not that I expected it too, i have done probably close to or over a thousand internet transactions in the last 1 1/2 yrs of selling on the internet...
I got an email fr a seller that they got a chargeback fr a buyer for an item purchased in FEB 2001.
By coincidence, this fraud buyer also purchased my item on the same date..anyhow, I get a billpoint investigation chargeback email stating that a BP chargeback had been initiated .
Reason:NON POSSESION OF CREDIT CARD..sounds like a stolen card issue.
Anyhow, i sent billpoint an email & filed for mail fraud.
Billpoint hasnt taken the $144 out of my account yet & I am seriously hoping & praying that Visa will rule this out as clear fraud. That $144 is still hard earned money!
Anyhow, i am just venting here & am seriously considering taking BP off my payment options...
BTW I just had my ebay store partially setup before all these happened & I do know that they REQUIRE you to accept BP as a payment option...
We'll see what happens...
I guess this is a warning for sellers to be careful..I heard PAYPAL has a better chargeback policy than Billpoint so we'll see what Billpoint does in response to obvious FRAUD! SInce a number of other sellers were clearly victims as well.

You are NOT required to have Billpoint as a payment option for your Ebay store. You ARE required to accept CC, but the method does not matter.
I don't have a billpoint account, I have a merchant account. My store is set up just fine.

Hi araindrop5 and welcome to the world of credit card fraud!
I have a merchant account and
<< non possession of credit card>> is described by them to mean that I as the seller did not have possession, or swipe the credit card.
Unfortunately, it has been my experiences with on line credit card companies that if you did not swipe the card and a fraud is declared you will automatically be deducted. They do not put much effort into this.
Hopefully in the near future, for the internet credit card business to really be fair to us sellers a better fraud protection plan will be initiated.

Thanks for being symphatetic guys..
barrelracer---what merchant account are you using?
Is it a lot different from paypal or billpoint?
how much % do they charge?
I loved BP until now but I need to find other alternatives. Any suggestions?

Other alternatives: achex, C2it, payingfast, bidpay - all at no cost to the seller and no charge backs. http://www.ygoodman.com [email protected]

araindrop5,
I have an account through my local bank because I have a brick and mortar (or wood and nails! ) business.
But they were no help last year when I suffered $3000.00 in internet fraud from one of my website stores. (Overseas, never never never never ship to Hungary or Indonesia. )
If I had no merchant account I would look into this C2It that yisgood praises. Of all the posters on auctiowatch he seems to be the one with the most facts and statistics.
By asking for referrals, your thread here will be filled with opinions and comments.
You just have to shop around and see what best fits your needs for your business.
I do feel though that all companies that process internet transactions will have to have either somekind of chargeback procedure or a great software system that verifies credit card numbers to names and addresses.
Best of luck. You are the one that has to decide if you want to have the fraud risk factor or just not accept credit card payments.
