In responce to seller outrage from eBay's "recommendation" spam for under bidders, eBay will now allow "sellers" to opt out of the service. eBay's "solution" doesn't even address the problem !

One thing I've liked about eBay is I haven't needed to junk up my computer with all kinds of cookies in order to be able to use the site. There are some functions that require cookies, but I don't need to use them to look at a page and place a bid. I've got my browser set to only accept cookies from the "originating server" (which cuts out a lot of the advertising/spyware ones I don't need, like doubleclick) and after I'm done with a computer session I wipe them off my hard drive before shutting down.
"Opting out" of this stupid, useless "Recommendations" feature requires me to store a cookie on my computer. It doesn't seem like I can "opt out" by changing my preferences.
Though, even though my preferences are set to NOT receive special promotions, surveys, telemarketing or direct mail, I did receive the spam for a free "Digital Voice Recorder" from some mystery company, the only identification being that it was sponsored by eBay. So it seems that "opting out" doesn't really mean anything to eBay anyway.
