Greetings Earthlings,

I'm considering traveling to some other area's of the country where buying certain items can be signifigantly cheaper than where I am and perhaps selling some items from here that can fetch premiums elsewhere (a field that has been somewhat leveled by ebay, but is still quite viable). Also certainly to add variety to my ebay fare that is hard to satisfy in just one region. Anyway, the expenses are obviously the main factor, not the least of which is airfare.

I'm looking for opinions and experiences on the best sites for finding fares and making arrangements and any pitfalls I should beware of.

Thanks in advance!! I have to get a little sleep now, gotta be up in 4 hours! I'll see if anyone could offer help tomorrow evening.

Just a mention I heard from a lady down South who deals in very small items. She takes alot over in her cases, sells alot, returns with all her cases full. Customs never knows the difference.
Watch those cheap flights, tho. Some of the really cheap flights are on jets leased from poor countries like Nigeria...where the maintenance on the birds isn't kept up--crash hazards!

Our daughter has used Travelocity the past several years. I can't say it's your best choice, as I honestly don't know. I do know she's pleased with them and likes the convenience. I believe she used them for international travel also..London, Nassau. She's had to fly lately to several friends' weddings, down to Key West to get her scuba certificate and her Mother's Day gift to me last month was a flight home (Tennessee) from University in Boston where she's getting her degree in architecture.

If you plan traveling very soon, an airfare war is in progress at the moment....great prices if you can deal with the crowds. Many times, your best airfare deals can be had by calling the airlines directly.

Good Luck! Sounds fun going shopping in new places. Hope you find lots of eBay goodies.

I've gone to www.bestfares.com, it is a site that you can pay a fee to belong to, but you can also get some of there free content in the "Snooze you Loose Fares" They list sale fare codes for many airlines, you just write down the fare code and call the airline directly.

The current Consumer Reports has a large article about this. It also includes web addresses.
Not my name on ebay.

I friend just used www.cheaptickets.com - she got her last-minute ticket for 1/3 of the cost of calling the airline direct.

Wow, thank you all for your help and suggestions, you've given me a great base to start with. I know I could have use alta Vista or another engine (and I will check it at some point) but the experience factor is always nice.

Cheers and thanks again

Please keep the suggestions coming--I'm bookmarking this thread for later use!!

long_gone, if you're anywhere near a city that Southwest Airlines serves, you're in luck. Go to www.southwest.com and sign up for their "Click-'n'-Save" specials (a weekly e-mail from them about special deals). If you use the web to buy your ticket, you can get a free flight in only four round trips. Such a deal!! No reserved seating, but I LOOOOVE the cheap fares!

Without eBay, I might have a real life...

If you have a specific destination in mind cheaptickets.com is convienent to compare prices of the major airlines.
If you haven't decided on a destination, you might also check out travelzoo.com.
Priceline.com is another site to check out.
