Hello All,
i am from Holland/Europe and starting with this business. I have a question about giving judgements to buyers.
There is a problem involved and i don't understand it:
let's say i have a deadbeat-buyer. He bids and after auction doesn't want to pay transport although it was stated in the description, etc. this guy is no-good.
I want to give a neg. But what happens; in respons he gives me a neg also. although i don't deserve it.
This negative should be deleted, because it is unfair; but ebay doesnot delete it.
To anticipate this in future, i consider to give no negatives anymore.
What do you sellers generally do, to anticipate unjust neg's. I don't see another solution than not give any neg's anymore.

It is your decision whether or not to give negatives, but how would you feel if everyone else did this, and you had no warning that a person was a deadbeat bidder?
The whole point of negatives is to warn others that a user is not fufilling his or her end of the bargain. We need them, so we can judge better if we want to do business with that person. When you refuse to leave negatives, then we don't know that the transaction didn't go well.
Retalitory feedback are taken very lightly in the eBay community. I have one, and my sales haven't struggled at all from it. That is why eBay lets you respond to feedback - to give your side of the story. All you have to do is respond "this bidder retailiated for neg for non payment" or something along those lines, and everyone will know that the neg. is pointless.

Ditto to tomwii, DEFINATELY file the FVF's, and hold off on leaving negs.
Since eBay tightened the rules on deadbeats, all he needs is a third strike to be out. (until he registers under a new ID... but that's a different topic.)
If you are just starting off, I would try to protect my feedback if I were you. It hurts a seller a lot more to have a neg (whether deserved or not,) than a buyer IMHO.

I guess I am the only one who actually reads what the neg is for, and looks at the feedback of the person who left it.

I agree with the above - I wish there was a standard neg given automatically by the system to a non-paying bidder, this would eliminate the problem completely.. but hey that would be too easy right?
I have done the neg on non payers and had no retaliation so far, but I got worried and stopped doing it on one I had lately since he was also nasty on top of it all...
Frits, if you have enough feedback it won't hurt you - but if you are still too new, it probably will, more than it should. It's unfair, but you might want to hold back for now.

Thankfully, revvassago, you're NOT the only one!
I file my NPBAs and FVF credits then leave negative feedback where negative feedback is due...I know most of the sellers don't care about the "community" aspect of it and I don't begrudge them that, but I believe that, for me, it is only right to leave the appropriate trail.
I am also very grateful for the others who, also, choose to do so. It helps us all in a small way.
On the other hand, I am extremely resilient and easy to work with and give much praise where it is appropriate as well. I offer excellent customer service and receive much appreciation for same.
All I am saying here is that, in order to present the complete picture, it helps to be able to see both sides of the coin when you are evaluating a potential buyer OR seller and this is what works for me...
PS: I love Holland and it's people! Hope to return there some day. My memories of spending time in Holland are among the very best of those I had while I was in Europe.

Thank you all for the reply. I'll think about it. As for you sharkbaby, thank you for your friendliness towards TheNetherlands, although i disagree (being a Dutchman through and through). This country is going down the drain; Holland is a bad! place. But i reckon politics and ethics are not matters to be discussed here.
Thanks and goodbye.
