I'm tired and so ended early today, so I thought I'd start this thread this week. Any good stuff?

Library book sale - yay!

Fun sale out in the boonies - lots of guy stuff!

Some western decor stuff that does well in the local consignment shop I put some of my stuff in.

And for me/us: One of those heavy metal tea kettles you put on top of wood-burning stoves to keep the air from getting dry. And a really nice miter (sp?) saw.

Hi Sadie...

Not many yard sales were advertised in our neck of the woods this W/E. I just kinda drove around and found'em.

Got a few small things for the kids, and a nice antique spice rack for my antique dodads....... other than that, not much out there today except clothes. EVERY sale had piles and piles of clothes.

I don't usually take the time to go through the clothing piles unless something catches my eye, like a civil war uniform or something...

an 1878 America Illustrated book - $7.00 (usually you see the 1883 version)

6 Christmas village buildings in boxes - $15.00 (but I may keep them)

1985 He Man Action Figures - $0.05 each

Beautiful ceramic Christmas deer and sleigh set - $3.00

Then there was today's live auction:

2 Flow Blue Platters - $260.00 each

3 glass bowls (1 amethyst, 1 yellow carnival and 1 crystal) - $10.00

1 Lowell Davis Schmid bell from 1978 - $7.50

Not too bad, but I wish I hadn't bought the Flow Blue platters. Too much money to have tied up in them. Oh well, live and learn.

Not too many sales here today - the weather was hot a 97% humdity. I found a depression glass bowl, and some books. One is a first edition, another is signed by the author.

Nope, this one was my own fault. Got caught up in the bidding frenzy. Some of the flow blue items were going for $1000+.

Not much this week, the pickin's were pretty slim - picked up a gorgeous tray in my favorite shade of Martha Stewart green, handpainted with big cabbage roses for $5.00, also a 1960 Ken for 50 cents, a EAPG pitcher, perfect for lemonade-$1.00, and two EAPG large serving bowls for 50 cents ea. All for me!

About the only thing I bought to sell is a Little Tykes dollhouse with car, people & furniture for $10. I'm regretting it already as I dread the thought of having to box it up & ship it.

Nothing at 7:30am...and again at 8am or 9 am, BUT at 2:15 in the afternoon, returning from a PO run on Friday, I decided to go to a sale that had opened that morning. Cambridge Gadroon honey dish, 1940 calendar framed with local advert, bag of hand-held pin ball games, and a kitchenware piece that will go up soon. Price $3. It is never too late, and you never KNOW too much! Think of those who were knocking on that door at 6:30 am, and didn't know what they left! Knowledge is Power!

tootsiepop, I know what you mean about that LT dollhouse! I dismantled my last one and sold it off for parts and did surprisingly well--so if you have the railings, the slide-out deck, the hanging light, the stairs/closet unit and most especially the baby swing, you can sell those parts for a tidy sum plus sell the people/car for a nice amount as well--and no packing hassles.

last 3 weeks have been tremendous but this week feel short. Drove some distance to a sale advertising ham radios - got there and it was a bunch of old CB's thrown in a box.
Drove to a sale in the paper that said BOOKS-BOKKS-BOOKS! Yeah. old moldy juvie fiction in cardboard boxes so dry rotted they can't pick them up.

On the way home one unadvertised sale saved the day. Set of 34 presidential portraits for $2 -- Thermos with actual cork - 10¢ - Hobart commercial candy scale $5 - LOTS of records - 10¢ each --First printing Stephan Foster song book 30¢ -- Aluminum camping cups two styles- telescope and nestle -50¢ space blanket 25¢
sheet of 1/4 inch plywood - free - softside lunch bag cooler - free - Canon BJ printer - free

First time in a long time, came home from driving around with absolutely nothing to show for it. Nothing!

There was a yard sale at the biggest house in town. The moommy is a former beauty queen, and she had racks and racks of her pageant clothes and gowns, designer stuff size 1 or ? 1/2? Maybe 2, tops. Sequins, etc. etc. She wanted up to $500 for each. I haven't been a size 2 since 1st grade, I think.

I suppose there are some who'd have bought a couple of those items to resell, but I didn't have the confidence to try it.

The other sales were just awful, tawdry, nothing collectible at all. Sometimes I get sad thinking about all the money Americans waste on little ugly "wall things" and cut-out wood hearts and straw flower things. They all end up in a sale, and are probably burned for fuel in the winter.

cin, yep, that was me who got the antlers. Unfortunately last week's horse skull turned out to be an elk skull (um, if I weren't such a dumb ex-city chick, the big hole in the head where the antlers were removed would have given that away). Despite suggestions from demented friends to list it as a unicorn, I ended the auction and used FLD to list it correctly.

As to decorating, with 925 sq ft of living space and eBay taking up about 500 sq ft, I call my personal style "Contemporary Piles."

imme, those kettles are great. Last winter with the cost of fuel, I used my wood-burning stove exclusively, and those kettles make a world of difference to the quality of the air.

roadsmith, size 1 or 2? I was a 2 for awhile in college, but recreational drugs were much cheaper then.

Yucky. I've visted sales this summer because the ad in the paper said "books" and when I got there they said no, they didn't have any. I am also seeing a lot of sales where junk was pulled out of basements and not cleaned in anyway. Yesterday at one place there was a box of old coke bottles...and the box was full of shattered glass!

At another sale I commented that I was a bookseller and the owner was very interested, asked what I wanted to buy. I wasn't prepared with a clear answer. He offered some business textbooks but that is not in my area of expertise so I declined. Later I smacked myself in the head, because I could have said I buy paperback novels in bulk. That's mostly what I buy at yardsales anyway, to take to a used bookstore to accumulate store credit.

I'm about fed up with chasing signs all over town, and will try to budget my time to hit out of town library booksales instead. I always score at booksales. There's a gigantic one coming up in August and I've alerted DH that I will cut our vacation week short so I can be there standing in line on opening day!

Don't know if any of these will sell high but I can't believe that I even recognised the cruddles dish (sp is wrong but it is close!) bought one at an auction before and will add to a lot sale in the fall) Used to only sell books but am moving up and out. My favourite thift store Walt disney singalong with Songs from the South picture on case + the song of course $ 1.00 but hoping will sell for much higher though not the orginal song of the south video. Lots of pvc for 10 cents ~ have the disney castle vintage and hope to put about 100 pvc walt disney at christmas in the hopes of a high seller! Well going to the big city next week and hope to cruise the stores there!

The yardsale was at my house this weekend and I am so tired I can barely type. But it was worth it-we can now get a car in the garage!

I'll bet there are alot of people gone for the holiday, so there aren't as many garage sales.

I went, I saw, I didn't get much....BUT I did get real lucky with a few things for me!!...A new tile top table for $20, a super ladder back arm chair $15 + assorted goodies....

But I had THE wildest thing happen today...we stopped at a sale on the way home from droppin' one of the kids at grandma's. It was an estate sale, basement loaded loaded with all kinds of stuff, mostly fabric, but certainly worth a good dig (I WOULD have spent hours there if I didn't have the DH and teen with me) ...I emerge from the basement, drippin' in sweat and filthy. Well, one of the sweetest senior citizen women there goes and gets a soap treated rag, wets it down and washes my hands for me (my arms were filled with goodies) then takes a washcloth from the pile of stuff outside the house & hands it to me to dry up...It was absolutely amazing!!!...And MOST appreciated!!!
