Just got home & found an email from a person who bought a laserdisc from me on June 12. I'd been planning on sending out a payment reminder on Monday (day 20), but the buyer decided to try a cute tactic:

Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2001 7:27 PM
Subject: ebay auction

I won a auction from you June 12 and never got the laserdisc. It was XXXX with Kevin Kline auction number #XXXXXXXXXX. You emailed me that you had a computer crash and needed to know how we made payment .I emailed you back that I had made payment thru the Paypal system on the 12th. I still have not received the laserdisc. Can you check on this for me? Thanks XXXXXXX

Very funny--and most creative as not a single word of it is *true*!

Do you guys think I was too harsh with my reply?

Hello.

You did indeed win this laserdisc from me. You have not received it because I have not yet received payment for it. I have never emailed you about a computer crash (because I have not had one)--the only time I emailed you was at end of auction to give you the total due & my address. Nor did I receive any email from regarding payment by PayPal (indeed this is the first email I've received from you). My auctions state quite clearly that I do not *accept* PayPal. I do keep copies of all emails I send & receive regarding auctions until satisfactorily concluded (FB left by both parties).

Now. I was planning on sending you a reminder on Monday (that being the 20th day since the auction ended), but this will do. Please go ahead and send payment for the laserdisc. Below is a copy of my original EOA notice.

Thank you,

I included my original email plus the headers for it.

The ball is now in her court...

How ironic bunnicula, I also had an auction end on 6/12 that I have not received payment for. Although, my buyer did respond and sent their mailing address.

Haven't received any money yet, so I e-mailed again last night, asking if the payment had been sent.

Person said they thought check had been mailed since my last name was listed in their checkbook register. But said they would immediately send the payment since they apparently haven't.

Seems strange to me! If someone's name was written in my checkbook register saying I had sent them money, I don't think I would immediately ship off another payment.

Anyway, I told the person that I would mail back other check if I receive two.

I have a bidder who won a buy it now. She requested BIllpoint invoice, which I sent. She emailed me about a week later wondering why I haven't emailed item.

I have no record of her paying with Billpoint nor have I ever received email from Billpoint for her transaction.

I wonder if this is her m.o. to trick sellers into thinking she paid....

I guest I will just file NPB and relist.

Bunnicula, your reply should have been:

'Yes, I received your email and sent the laser disk to the address you specified in Romania, however there was an extra $7 charge for the long distance shipping. Please remit the extra $7.'

I've got a bunch of these too! Suppose it is something in their drinking water? Using the PayPal excuse when you don't take PayPal buys them some more time. They just really need to start keeping a log of what excuses they told to who because sometimes they get mixed up. I've got one that emailed right back after winning that money order was on its way. Never came. Then she wanted to pay with PayPal (don't take it). Now I'm hearing nothing. I've already filed NPB and Monday is her last day before final value fees are requested. She's new, bid on and won over 38 items, over $1,500 total. Check on your bidder and see if she won a bunch of stuff and now she's holding off who she can until she can pay. I've got another: thought she wrote a check, no she didn't. Maybe she sent a money order but she can't find her receipt; she will pay with PayPal (don't take it). Now I don't know where this one stands. They don't realize that it takes time to follow up on these late payers and they seem to be multiplying on Ebay like little rabbits!! I've got about 10 that are teetering on the edge right now! Good luck with yours as it sounds like she really doesn't know if she paid you or not. Your reply was very good.

I had a seller win my auction on the 18th. She emailed me on the 19th to say that she mailed the money order. On the 28th I emailed her to let her know that I never receved it. She emailed back that she found it in her car, thought she had mailed it. It arrived a day or two later. The date on the money order was 6/26. I am not complaining! I have had a lot of deadbeats and am glad she paid. I don't understand the lying part.

I won an auction on the 8th and paid via Paypal the same day. On the 21st I emailed the seller because I had not received the package. She emails back that it's "well on its way" and that special standard takes longer. That's fine. When it arrives it is postmarked the 21st.

Paintpower it seems that my bidder won 18 auctions (bid on 24) between June 6 & June 21. She now has a single negative--not for non-payment, though:

Complaint : Poor communication,Lack 2 understand discription.Failed 2 utilize refund option
Response: Absolutely correct this was my mistake. I have apologized.

It could be that other negs will appear, but it sounds like this is a careless, disorganized individual who might have bit off more than she can chew in a short period of time...

My latest! My bidder won the auction. After waiting a couple weeks I emailed him to ask where the payment was. I asked politely. He replied and said he sent it the day the auction ended. I suggested to him that he check to se if the money order was cashed and if so where. If not, to cancel it and send a new one. He lives in CA. I live in MA. He said it was cashed in Atlanta, GA. I told him I was going to contact the postmaster general for an investigation as there is obviously a federal crime committed since the US mail was used. He emailed me asking me not to do that as he had already and that he was out several hundred dollars from this and could not resend it. Personally, I think he's a liar. I hate that. It's infuriating!!!

Just got home and found another email from this person. Profuse apologies--says that she must have mixed me up with another seller. She even spent the extra $5 to send me a MO through Bidpay (their two emails also awaited me).

So I was right--this is a disorganized person who has a hard time keeping things straight. Which makes her conclusion even more ironic:

I am so sorry for the delay. I also have just started selling a few small item on ebay and I know how frustrating non payers can be. I don't remember your email, I get so many. This was obvisouly my stupid mistake, as I said please accept my apology...I will look back into my records and determine which laserdisc I was thinking about. Anyway hope you have a great holiday. Thanks XXXXXXX

The mind boggles...

My most rude customer so far ( in about 5000 auctions)
Where is my book ? I sent you a money order~ all in capital letters. ~ this after no response to my first email 2 weeks earlier.
After an other 2 weeks ~ I wrote and said had not arrived ~ what does he want to do ?
Received a longer letter~ all captialized~ talked to postmaster~ says takes a month to get to canada ( already over a month!) just be patient , don't want to waste money on another money order , dont' want to send a cheque , I asked for a money order ( I accept cheques no hold~ in my first email letter) blah blah as though it is my fault! What a jerk! and he has positive feedback! ugh
I am going away all holidays and I guess he can now wait for his book! doubt if I ever see his money ~ all for a $ 5.00 book~ glad I ranted as he is now out of my mind! Expect to get a negative on this one but I will enjoy giving a negative back!

THIS IS JUST AMAZING!! WHAT A CO-INKY-DINK!!

YOU GUYS HAVE ALL THE SAME BUYERS AS I DO!!!

Well, almost - I didn't see my buyer whose house had burned down, or the one whose house was robbed and they took her computer also -

I wonder how they are bidding every day so much????

My heart it just WRENCHED with sorrow for these poor unfortunate individuals!

Aaaaaaaaack!

I have been in sales most of my life. The I learn early is that - Rule #1 Buyer "bidders" are liars.

I chuckled at your bidders comment she was a new seller! I have been lucky to have very few non-payers, but the one that kept me "strung along" for so long was also a "new seller"!

She answered my EOA promptly, told me she had auctions that had also "just closed" and she would let me know which method she would use to pay me as soon as she found out how she was going to get paid. She indicated she probably would use PP.

A week passes so I send an email asking if she had decided which method of payment she wanted to use.

She responded back very quickly that she was still waiting on her payments and she would let me know when she got her money so she could send me mine....

This went on for a month. Then I told her I thought we should just cancel the whole deal and relist, but I would have to file for my FVF. She emails right back that was fine and apologized profusely and begged me NOT to leave her a NEG because she was trying really hard to get established as a seller and it realllllly wasn't her fault she couldn't get her buyers to pay her so she could pay me! I accomodated her.

I kept tabs on her for awhile and thought how ironic it was that ALL her auctions stated in bold that if you couldn't afford to pay on time NOT to bid and NEG FB would be given!!!!!

She did leave a few NEGS for non-payment as promised, but she also racked up quite a few NEGS for slow shipping as a seller and non-payment as a buyer. She is now NARU.
