I'm in Canada and bought an item from the U.S. I was given a quote of $14.25 for shipping, but when the item arrived the postage was $8.95.

This person does quote a shipping price for the U.S. that includes Handling, so I assumed there would be an extra charge on top of the $8.95, but $5.30 seems like too much to pay for Handling. (The item was shipped in a Priority box turned inside out.)

I haven't written to the Seller yet to tell them I received the item, because I'm not quite sure what to say. Should I just drop it?

P.S. No feedback has been left either way.

As a buyer, I would complain (possibly in vain), because as a seller, I charge $5.00 for 1 pound USPS Airmail to Canada, which is just $0.95 more for handling. I never add 5.00.

What do you have to gain by pursuing the issue ?

If they quoted you the price for shipping and handling, then you accepted it. So long as they delivered on their end of the bargain, then I don't think you have room to object. They may have factored in their time and hassle to ship to you (thinking it would be more of a hassle than it probably was), but regardless, they told you the rate and you accepted it.

sounds to me like they either guessed at the shipping rate or gave you an estimate for high cost shipping then shipped the cheapest way.

From a fellow Canuck, IMO you should just drop it. You should have asked before you placed your bid.

i just shipped a box to canada and is surprised how inexpensive it is 4.95??
your seller could figure in peanuts, wrapping ,box and standing in line, time taken to fill out form etc.
i know supplies have become more espensive.

If this seller uses online postage, they had to make a special trip to the post office just to handle this. I'd charge at least $5.00 because that involves using up my entire lunch hour standing in line.

(This is why I specify 'U.S. Only' in my auctions. <grin>

Again, you knew about it beforehand. If you had problems with it being too high, you should have either questioned it then or not bid.
