I shipped an item to Spain about a month ago. I received it back in the mail today, with this stamped on it numerous times:

DEVUELTO PER VENCIMIENTO DE PLAZO

Anyone able to translate?

Thanks in advance.

A cool translation website to try is: http://babelfish.altavista.com

This should at least give you an idea although the end result is not very good.

In this case, my guess (with babelfish's help) is that the person did not pick up the item within the allotted time.

Literal translation: "Return for failure of deadline."

I'd agree...it probably signifies that the addressee did not claim the package within the notification/holding period.
