Hi Everyone

I was just wondering what the categories on Ebay that attract the highest amount of
deadbeats, slow payers, ripoffs and the like.
Also what categories are the safest in that they attract the least amount of deadbeats who bid?

I am starting to sell items in several categories, and am thinking of having a different TOS for each category depending
on how many deadbeats are attracted to that
sort of merchandise.

Seems to be the most deadbeats: Anything that has to do with cameras. Geez.

Slow payers: Non-exercise videos. They pay, but they have no qualms about emailing me a week after the auction to tell me the check will go in the mail "Monday," - meaning there's no way I'm getting that sucker 10 days after the auction ends. Also cd's.

Best, sweetest, payers, who don't hassle me and actually read everything in the auction: book buyers. But then again, they actually can read.

Another good category: collectible pottery. Nice folks who pay in a timely manner.

More faves: guy stuff. I like my male customers - they pay nice prices for stuff, don't nickel and dime me, and pay promptly.

I've had the largest percentage of slow/non payers from email addresses ending in .edu - students. The professors pay quickly!

I have had generally good experiences selling secondhand children's clothing, but this same group has been my biggest source of deadbeats and difficult transactions. All in all, there have not been enough problems to keep me out of the secondhand children's clothing market. Good luck to you.

Thats funny someone mentioned cameras attract a lot of deadbeat/slow payers as I was planning to list a digital camera today.
Does anyone else have bad experiences listing cameras?

Compact discs are the biggest problem for me,I don't even bother with them anymore. The second worst catagory for me are toys from the 1980's.Especially action figures.I have put She Ra action figures on ebay several times, they always bring in great bids but I have never been paid for them.

My most deadbeats: Christian items (books, music, videos, etc.)

My most harrassing bidderss: electronics (such as wanting me to mail before recieving payment, and then when they never mail payment irate at me for not sending)

My best bidders: homeschool and craft materials

those who bidded on your cameras found another one for less, same model same brand.
hence deadbeats/
the best buyers are the ones who buy figurine/prints of the pet they have at home, bulldog owners for some reason send their payments very fast, never complain and never return the item.

I only sell music related product.

THE WORST Payers in my opinion are people who bid on rap cd's. The rap genre brings out lots of bidders, but no one seems to pay for their items. Very strange. Classical music seems to bring out the BEST bidders.

Food for thought rap cd's are always really close to the checkout counter at your local record store. Classical music seems to have it's own unattended room??

Worst type of items ... Grateful Dead items or Goths items. The buyers are not the most stable people on the planet.

Our worse response is in Hobbies, Radio Control cars. I hate listing things there but.....

15 auctions last run, 3 never responded.
(waiting in the 10 day NPBA period now)

Next worse is anything listed in any toy section.

Best response has been in coins, casino chips and other 'pricey' collectables.

>Does anyone else have bad experiences listing cameras?<

Funny that you should mention it but......

......yes. We listed a digital camera a few months ago. It sold once and was never paid for. It did go the second time around but for less money.

Categories for the most problems and deadbeats for me was Baby items.Thats why I quit selling them.
Other bad category for deadbeats is T-Shirts.I would say clothing would be a nightmare for me.

Anything that is a tool to use for your trade I have never had problems. Machinist tools -
ham radio stuff - construction tools.

The one time I tried selling bicycle stuff like locks HALF of my bidders did not pay.
Pagers are bad. They not only don't pay they e-mail to insult you in bad english.

Books on religion - They don't seem to have any morals. I guess they are so holy you should donate it. I wonder if satanists pay?

rent20: I've sold three digital cameras on ebay and in each case I got a very good price and the respective buyers paid immediately and were very gracious...Perhaps I was fortunate. I am not in the business of selling digital cameras. I just happened to buy two before finding the right one for me in the third one I bought and then I won the other one in a contest. (Made over $700 on that one!)

Worst - Ladies clothing

Best - Most antique & collectible categories

I know from my experience as a buyer that pattern buyers deadbeat a lot. I usually get outbid on the patterns I want, but I've learned to email the seller to let them know that I still want the pattern if the high bidder never pays. 9 times out of 10 I end up being the pattern's new owner.

I too have encountered some deadbeats on Christian items, but not enough to discourage me from selling them. I also agree that ladies' clothes are the WORST category for deadbeats. UGGGHH!!! Actually I have a theory that NO category is immune...

I sell a lot of silver collectible items (flatware, etc.) and have never been stiffed by a buyer in those categories. I have sold tons of ladies clothing, and that would be my "worst" category...if you figure that about 4 deadbeats out of 400 sales is "bad."

I would avoid computer stuff, CDs, and electronics like the plague. I keep hearing terrible things about deadbeats, scamming sellers, etc.

IF Real Christians were bidding on the Christian items..then they would keep their word and pay.

Christian items are not made just for the Christians..but are made for the Non-Believers too!

There are many Non-Believers that are interested in Christian items.

Just because a Christian item is up for sale..does not mean the person who is doing the bidding is one!

Real Christians are Honorable!

Teen items hands down. Music, videos, music videos, magazines.... Anything with Britney Spears, Backstreet boys, Hanson, etc. But then aren't you supposed to be 18 or older to bid on eBay? What a joke!

I am sorry you feel that way, but that statement "Real Christians are Honorable" is My Belief.

It may not have been the most graceful way to put it, but I don't think saying that real Christians are honorable means that non-Christians are NOT honorable.

Real PEOPLE are honorable, no matter what their religious beliefs or lack of same. Morals don't necessarily come from a Christian upbringing, or from any specific religious belief at all. There are lots of very honorable and moral atheists; their honesty just stems from beliefs other than religious ones.

I sold a collection of Precious Moments, also a collection of toothpick holders. Both categories had excellent bidders-quick pay and no deadbeats. Also great luck with Lionel trains. Bad luck with NASCAR items, lots of NPB's.
