what's the deal with these ebay stores. i checked a few out today. seem like a great idea to increase sales.
does anyone actually buy from them?
wondering if it is worth the time to set up.
any comments/reviews on ebay's newest gimmick would be appreciated.

most buyers have a hard time finding the entrance to the stores, ebay is supposed to build a separate hub.
ebay is supposed to build a separate search for the shop items as they are not included in auction search.
without entrance and without search ,ebay stoes just rot inside.
but, ebay will soon be promoting these shops on each category page .
some shopowners said they have done well, some claimed it confuses their customers,so they closed the shops.
most dont have much sales, first we dont get much traffic, traffic precedes sales,so we just rot and rot until someone carts us out.
may not be a bad idea for xmas

most dont have much sales

Do you have some data on that? How do you keep track?

I have had a few sales and requests for extra items so there is potential. I know it has some bugs to be worked out yet but so far I am happy with the "freebie".

Every Ebay store I have gone into has high prices. Compared to what I am used to on Ebay. Unless you can price your items cheaper then the same items being auctioned off it doesn't make much sense.

I guess if you have one of a kind items or you are the sole seller of a product it would work.

I have visited probably a dozen shops in my browsing the past week while shopping and frankly they looked dull and overpriced.

I'll stay with my auctions for now

It depends on what you sell. If you've had a lot of "buy it now" sales on your auction items, you might do very well with an eBay store.

I've sold a few dozen items since opening mine. But I've had to drive traffic to my store myself -- by noting it in big letters in my auction listings.

It hasn't hurt my auction sales. People who buy my widgets fall into one of two groups; those who want their widgets right away and those who are willing to wait in the hopes of saving a buck or two. Again, this will depend on what you sell.

It's nice to be able to list multiples of an item & just let them sit there for 30 days or until sold out.

The biggest drawbacks: no help from eBay in generating traffic; stores look like crap; no shopping cart yet.

Since there's no monthly fee or listing fee until September, why not open a store and try out a few items?

I decided to try it out since it was free until September. I opened my store a week ago. So far none of my 'store' items has more than 2 hits. Most have 0.

Unless eBay starts promoting the store search engine, the stores are useless to me.

edited to add - And I have auctions running, too, which probably drives a bit of traffic to my store. Relying on the stores alone would be abysmal, I think.

Yup, eBay Stores are useless for now unless you make a concerted effort to drive traffic to your store. Noone or very few will click to browse your Store now while eBay isn't promoting it or hasn't created an integrated Search function for Store items yet.

If you aren't going to try to promote your Store through your auction listings or other means, then you might as well shut your Store down.

ebay shops cannot be priced lower than their auction items as auction items are priced low to attract competitive biddings.
but shop items are buy it now items.
one thing i dont like to this 30 days expiration, since when do venue provider tells shops to keep items on the shelf for 30 days??

I doubt I'll continue my store past September unless there are some major changes between now and then. One reason I decided to try it out now was to see if it is worth $10 a month for me to continue later. So far, the answer is no. I'll see what the rest of the summer brings.

I just closed my ebay store. I opened it in June, right when you were first able to set them up. I even checked prices of items currently selling at auction and had prices lower. You can not find your items doing a search, how was the customer supposed to find them. It was a total waste of time for me. I sell on 5 other sites and just thought I could increase sales, but I do not have time for this if is not working

I have had two sales in two weeks from 30-odd store listings. I sell the same stuff on auction, and I have sold many more buy-it-nows at the same price in the same time period.

The store listings do not mesh nicely with my software, plus what everyone said above. I do not plan to list any more once this batch has expired.

Once they launch the stores full blast in September I might be back, but I doubt it.

I opened my store the first week they became widely available. I've had only one sale so far. I doubt I'll be continuing when they start charging.

One of the key things I did was to remove "buy it now" from all of my auction listings.

If they wanna "buy it now" they have to go to my store to do it. And I make it really easy for them to get there from my auction listings.

I recently asked ebay for a ruling about putting a clickable link on my auction pages to my store (let's face it..the toe tag just isn't cutting it).

According to their response, I can use a clickable link & am not bound by the 10 word maximum like for 3rd party links (PayPal, etc.).

So link away, folks, on your auction pages. Hope that helps drive some traffic there!
