Hooray, it's Friday the 13th and I've dumped PayPal! If those who have whined about their usurous fee increase will also make this commitment, maybe they'll get the idea. Down with exorbitant fees!!!

GOOD FOR YOU ghallgren....!
Stick to your moral guns....
How did people pay for things before PAYPAL came to town...?
I have always thought of them like a dog food company...
Dogs have been around 1000s of years yet Purina has only been around
few years...
If you have the right item at the right price..throw in some good service..
You will never miss them...
If you still feel that you need to accept Credit Cards .. call your bank and set up a
sm business merchant account...and take those cards over the phone...

Hehe paypal has sellers so brainwashed into thinking if they dont accept it they will be out of business. Well I started selling long before paypal, and I will be selling long after they are gone. Nobody is going to replace checks and money orders. If the customer really wants the item they will gladly send a check or moner order. eBay will give them the boot if they keep causing trouble.

Congats for you.
I'll stick with PayPal. As for what they did before Paypal came to town? I would guess the same thing they did long ago before Credit Cards were invented. They paid a different way.
However, now that credit cards are here to stay, you cannot just get rid of them.
Likewise, now that people expect the convenience of paying online quickly with a credit card, I for one am not going to disappoint them. The fees balance out -- the vast majority of my auctions have been PayPal transactions -- so I'm not about to cut off my customer's wishes.

I read about paypal sending lowlife emails to users about ebay adding billpoint logos or something like that. Maybe another member can share the whole story. eBay should ban them from their site, and I think if paypal keeps crossing the line they will. I hope paypal keeps raising their fees because it is better for me since I dont accept it. I can have lower starting prices and that helps alot. Buyers will get sick being stuck paying in high handling fees. I find my customer base enjoys my feedback, customer service, and business ethics. That is more important to me than dealing with a corrupt company.

Same here.......
I don't blame you for dumping them (PP) if you're not happy. I finally, after 5 years of mostly bad service, just dumped AOL!

Chum, you could learn to be a little more mature IN YOUR ANSWERS. There is no need to be insulting to those who find PayPal to be a benefit.
You don't. Your call. Other have a different point of view. eBay booting PayPal would be one of the worst decisions they could make. Whether you use them or not.

I do accept paypal, but I also accept personal checks that I do not hold. I have had one bounced check and the person that sent it informed me before it came and paid all the fees. It seems like the buyers I have, most pay by Money Order, then Personal checks and last but not least is PayPal. I personally like it better when they send a check or Money Order then I can get everthing ready before I receive their payment. With PayPal everything is instant and I feel I have less time to get their merchandise ready. I do not pack before the end of the auction and until I get mailing information from my buyer.

There's no point in telling the professional Paypal haters to get a merchant account. If PayPal fees are crippling their business then they probably wouldn't qualify for a real merchant account. Let's face it there's a vocal group of "merchants" that think thousands of people, and millions of dollars in resources should be at their disposal to make them money at little or no cost. eBay, PayPal, Billpoint, Auctionwatch, etc. should exist for no other reason than to make money for them.
As for, "Nobody is going to replace checks and money orders." Puuhhleeese, There will come a point in the future when those will be sold on eBay in the "Collectibles > Autographs, Paper & Writing > Paper > Ephemera" category.

Heh you guys, am I missing something here? I love PayPal, most of my customers use it. I have more trouble waiting for their checks and money orders to arrive. I constantly get the "I forgot" or "I have been too sick to get a money order" or just plain ignored when I send reminders. A question for all of you out there. How long do you wait for payment before giving them a Negative Feedback? When is a bidder considered non-paying? Has anyone had trouble with the new City Bank account? The fees they are charging to get your money seem high.

I know what you mean about the wait. Most of my late payers are check/mo mailers with very creative excuses. For the life of me I can't understand why someone who is already buying online won't just send a free e-check thru Billpoint.
Paying fees cost money but so does sitting on items waiting weeks for money to arrive, its called cash flow.

Congrats on dumping Paypal.... I got rid of them as well and switched to C2it, I have
not noticed a change in the percentage of my items selling and I doubt that I will.
if you think people will stop buying because you don't except paypal you are
WRONG. If they want the item they will buy it and pay the way you accept...and if
you think some will choose the same item from a seller who DOES accept paypal,
well, yep some might but MOST will not. AS long as you offer some type of an easy
to use electronic payment method, then those in a rush to get your item will bid. sure,
there are some who will only buy if they see the paypal logo ( or so they say ) but
just let them see an item they have been searching for for a while - then they wont
give a Nat's patuti about paypal, they will bid..
those who accept paypal, good for you, keep on raising your prices and lowering
your profit percentage, I will be glad to accept YOUR customers........

I, personally, will not bid on an auction that does not accept paypal. I am so willing to pay for the convinience of getting my money fast! Faster than any other way with my debit card. So, you guys that don't accept paypal, checks, Billpoint can just send your customers my way. I will take them any day!!

"You don't. Your call. Other have a different point of view. eBay booting PayPal would be one of the worst decisions they could make. Whether you use them or not."
Well bad decision or not it will happen if they keep sending people those lowlife emails. And why would it be a bad decision? I was selling from the start when ebay was at its best and guess what? There was NO paypal in those days, and if I could go back to those days I would in a heartbeat as would most sellers. 20% of auctions are paid by credit card, 80% with check and money orders.
Great post whitemist. I see many sellers who have the same items I do charging anywhere from $1.00-$1.50 extra in their shipping fee, and they all take paypal. So a conservative buyer will pay less and send a check to save money. And paypal users please dont think I "hate" paypal because I dont. The more people brag them up the more they will raise their fees, and this helps me more. I think this is why I am doing better than my competition.

I still accept paypal and they are COSTING ME SALES because they piss the buyers off by saying I declined their cards. If I upgrade I'm stuck with fees I can't cover without getting angry buyers. So back to accepting money orders only after this next bunch.
I won't buy from sellers accepting paypal either.

Try to pay attention. Yes, before Paypal, people were able to use ebay. However, now that PayPal is here and provide a much needed convenience for buyers, getting rid of it WOULD hurt business for ebay. Fact, pure and simple.
You can go from easier to harder and expect there NOT to be repercussions. That's common sense.
You personally may not have noticed a difference, but you've heard testimony from many who don't bid on auctions that don't accept PayPal. Sorry, dude, it's a fact of life now.
You could roll back all the way to trading clamshells for currency if you want to. But it WILL affect you.
And there was no lowlife email. There was an email notifying people that EBAY screwed up and inserted Billpoint info into auctions. Please pay attention.

Maybe so, but I'd be real surprised if they all left eBay for good if PayPal wasn't allowed there anymore.
That would be kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face, don't you think?

Please pay attention. People are not going to quit selling OR buying if ebay gives paypal the boot. And dont say it would hurt ebay because thats a joke. More sellers everyday are dumping paypal for other online payment companies and who can blame them? So you keep raising your prices to pay paypal, and send your customers my way.
"You personally may not have noticed a difference, but you've heard testimony from many who don't bid on auctions that don't accept PayPal."
Once again please pay attention to what I posted before. If a buyer really wants an item they will not think twice about paying by check or money order. 80% of buyers still use check or money order to pay.
"And there was no lowlife email. There was an email notifying people that EBAY screwed up and inserted Billpoint info into auctions. Please pay attention"
Please pay attention with the news. I have included a link to the story. And it was a lowlife email to make a quick buck trying to scare users.

I can't say that I won't bid, but I am more inclined to if the auction states PayPal accepted. That fact alone tells me PP makes a difference in bidders/bidding.
As has been stated before, I like making it easier for bidders to pay me and I don't see how dumping PP would help me, but I DO see how it could hurt as about 70% of our sales have been PayPal'd as of late.
I GLADLY give up a little profit for sales.
Any day, all day.

Your response shows that you are NOT paying attention. You cite unfounded statistics (80% -- show proof). Fine if you don't want to satisfy your customers. Send them to real dealers.

I had a high bidder a couple of weeks ago who, when told that I did not accept PayPal, replied with the following comment:
"I would like to do more business with you but it's too much trouble."
Funny thing is... he has since won another auction. I guess it turned out not to be too much trouble, after all.

Funny, I still have the same problem with paypal users, and not all send paypal right away either.
From my experience most people don't comparison shop. If the start bid is right they jump right in.
Paypal doesn't have the same advantage as using a credit card at a B&M. At a B&M, if you don't have cash, you can not buy the item without a card. However, on ebay, a buyer can win an auction and delay paying until they do have cash. So impulse buyers on ebay are still going to bid on auctions without paypal.
