Since 90% of my spam seemed to come from Hotmail addies, I blocked email from that site--I think a lot of people do.

I would have to say that onebox.com beats them all.
there are no banners, you get free email, free voicemail!, a free incoming fax number, a calender, and tons and tons of other stuff.
you can even check your email over the phone for free.
I was amazed when I found it a few months ago.

myrealbox.com is another good one. No ads and you can get pop access. I know several people here use it.

I've been thinking of getting a new mail account to replace my Excite account which is slow, cumbersome and less than reliable.
Can anyone guess which service will be around in a year or so - maybe even one that charges a couple of bucks?
I want the account to be as reliable and permanent as possible before I start using it with friends, bidders etc.
Thanks!

Why would anyone look anywhere else but Yahoo for a free email account??? Yahoo's not going anywhere and they've been offering free email accounts for years. They probably have the most features as well. They also offer twice the storage as Microsoft's Hotmail (6 MB to 3 MB).

I've been using Yahoo as my primary e-mail for nearly 4 years now (mainly to avoid having to reset e-mail addresses and send out notices when changing ISP's) and have found it to be emminently reliable.
I store all critical messages there (with a backup forward to my POP account) and only delete sensitive information. It's a lot more convenient for receiving notices like the posting-related e-mails from AW and other forums I use....which sometimes amount to 100+ per day...
The only way to know what's really best for you is to try what's been suggested here (along with doing some research on your own) and let your instincts guide you....remembering the fleeting nature of anything free on the Internet...
Good luck!
