I use a lot of size #5 bubble-envelope mailers, and have been getting them for 50 cents a piece [this includes shipping from NJ to VA] from uline.

I am happy with their product and service, but wondered if anyone has found a better price than that.

I've tried using ebay but either haven't found a better deal or didn't like the seller's shipping routine or something.

thanks!

I use Bubblefast. I see the price delivered is .41 now.

You can get to their web site by adding a .com to their name.

I use gatorpack for my mailers. #5 are 50 for $18.00 thats 45c each including shipping. I have used them for over a year and never had any problems. Hope that helps.

My solution requires a little more work, so it may not be for you if time is a crunch. Viking sells a mailer that's "six times stronger than paper." They run about five cents each. I use bubblewrap and these on about 80% of my books with no problems. Bubblewrap 8-16 cents per book; mailer 5 cents each = 21 cents.

Sadie, help me, the only mailer like that I found on viking was $27 for a box of 100 = $0.27 per. Are you buying those by the truckload or am I missing something?

I have been selling alot of books and using the coregated paper on a roll. I first seal the book in a plastic bag and leave extra at the ends.

I also have a supply of popcorn boxes left over from the video store. I wrap some of the books in bubble wrap then send them in the box. The customers enjoy the cute package - and I get to save a tree

great tips, thanks guys! I sort of hate to dump uline since their customer service is SO great, but if I can save $10...it's worth it.

I sometimes do the bubblewrap and envelope thing, but I like the size 5 mailers because they are excellent for the oversize craft paperbacks I often sell. I find myself folding them over to make a tight fit for smaller books a lot, so may need to invest in a batch of smaller ones, too.

I also buy from Bubblefast. They are great. Fast shipping and nice people.

Try Viking office products.
http://www.vikingop.com/ They have great sales and I usually buy a lot during those times. They are a couple of cents more per item than bubblefast but they have free shipping on $50 or more (this was considered when comparing prices) and get it to me in 1 - 2 days.

The cheapest I've found is BargainsGaloreStore (add a .com to the end). I think it's a one-man operation, but you can get large batches of bubble mailers for pretty cheap (lost of different sizes). I bought a "variety pack" and it cost me $0.20 each. You can pay with PayPal too.

wbbell, let me find the catalog, and I'll tell you which mailer it is. (I don't buy a truckload, but it may have been a sale item.)

llama_lady, I'm not sure if this is still true, but when I took Bubblefast's price for small bubblewrap (which is what I use for books) and added their shipping, it came to 8.2 cents a square foot. The same bubblewrap at Viking (w/no delivery charge) came to 11.4 cents a square foot.

Also, I'm not sure if it's because I'm an old customer or because I buy from the catalog (rather than the website) or because I'm in WA state, but I get free delivery from Viking with orders over $25.00.

Hi Keziak,

I switched from bubble mailers to Jet core corrugated mailers. I love them and the PO loves them since they are more rigid than bubble mailers. I had a 9 x 12 book that was sent to Alaska from Mich and back via media mail (7 weeks of being kicked around) and no damage. The mailman can't suff and crush them into the mailbox either. The flute adds cushioning as well. They have to have the best self seal on the market. Stuff really sticks. When I used bubble mailers I always added a piece of tape to it which was added labor and expense. I rarely ever do with these. Buy.com sells #5 which is the size I use for most of my books. They sell a few other sizes as well but I go through these the most. Anything bigger than that goes into a bookfold or box. They are 70.99 for a box of 200. Whenever I have bought them shipping was free but I don't know if I got them on free shipping day or not. http://www.us.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=130012863&loc=13526 or Jet Core corrugated mailers.

Cheaper bubble mailers can be found at pakoutlet.com sells them both on their website and ebay (pakoutlet-user name) and anther source is 123pix.com.

I live in Mich. so shipping shouldn't be too different than VA. Good luck.

marlenedz - I checked it out...that looks good, too! I like the rate per 200, and it does seem to be free shipping. Golly, decisions decisions...

I just ordered mailers from 123pix too.
Came out to about 41 cents apiece with shipping.

As a side benefit, 123pix also has FREE secure server services if you have a merchant credit card account but no wherewithal to take credit cards securely over the Internet.

Hey, you guys are missing out... Go to http://www.papermart.com They are way cheaper than everybody mentioned on this thread.

I get bubble mailers for about 20 cents. Bubble wrap WAY less than anywhere else. Good stuff too... genuine Bubblwrap brand for cheap.

It's even cheaper if you are in So. Calif. because of local shipping to me is only $6 regardless how much or little I buy... and if I buy a lot, shipping is free!

You guys owe me...

Hi,

Quill.com was mentioned in another thread. I took the seller's suggestion and ordered bubble envelopes Monday morning...late morning...and received my 3 boxes this afternoon. That is fast! It was from PA to
the Washington DC area. When they say they ship the same day if you order in the morning they must be serious.

The largest & most expensive mailer was 9 1/2 X 13 for .33 AND the employee was very nice and professional.

Very nice service. Thanks to the person who suggested it.

Shipping is included in their prices.

Sadie999 oops you are right about the shipping, had a temporary mental block (at least I hope it was temporary). I didn't price bubble wrap because it wasn't on sale. I only buy things from Viking that are on sale. There are some very good deals.

Of course now, I am going to check out all the other sites mentioned and see which is better for me. I guess it all depends how much one orders as to how much they save.

Thanks for all the info. It is remarkable how much information is on the web.

123pix said they'd email me when they shipped my order. Hmmm, no email today. Was it shipped or not? Service means almost as much to me as price. Uline will keep my business if they prove to be more reliable than other places.

keziak,

I've bought several orders from them over the past year. All of them went out very fast. The only thing I don't like about it is that the packaging slip doesn't have the shipping amount for my records and it is best to print your order off their website when submitting.

I did hear from 123pix and will use them again if they are reliable. Funny, I've been able to find awesome deals on cases of tape on ebay, but finding the right mailers has been a pain. I appreciate the good tips here, thanks for sharing!

Hi,

I forgot to say that I only ordered the minimum from Quill, because I wanted to see what their customer service & product was like. I took this, minus numbers, from the
invoice that was emailed to me within hours:

SHIPPING MAILER, 5 X 8-1/2" 1 box (250 count): 37.99

SHIPPING MAILER,8-1/2 X10-1/2" 1 box (100): 24.99

SHIPPING MAILER, 9-1/2 X 13" 1 box (100): 32.99

Shipping was included.

I also received a catalog (and some sample goodies) that seems to have some nice prices. LabRat4

wbbell, you were right, I was having a senior moment - I did buy the mailers on sale for 10 cents a piece, but they're normally 20 cents a piece. My apologies. Sorry it took so long to respond.

But now I have a question for the group. What do folks think about Kraft paper? For me, time isn't an issue because my roommate does my shipping 99% of the time, but I'm wondering if it would be strong enough (with bubblewrap around books). I'm thinking there would be very little waste, and all books would be wrapped perfectly according to their size without having to fold mailers that were too large, etc.

Thanks for any input.

Bubblewrap + kraft paper = poorly packaged book.

After bubblewrap I wrap in several layers of unprinted newsprint. Then I box them and cover the box with kraft paper.

I have never received a hardcover book in an envelope that hadn't sustained damage enroute.

Great thread THANKS! I've been looking for #000 mailers and found them at bubblefast. Saved 20cents on each compared to what I'm paying now. I've tried to order them locally like Staples - Office Depot and no one carries them that small. (4x7)

YIPPEEE of course now I have to figure out where to store 500 of them
