Hello I have been selling high end brand clothing like Prada, Miu Miu, Chanel, Hermes, Versace, Gucci, Armani, etc for about 6 months now. (ever since december)

I can't remember but it seems sales during this summer (my first) are down compared to when I first began. I am selling lots of awesome items but they are either barely making profit or making me loose money.

When will this slup be over? Should I hold off selling for a more profitable time?
And why are people so cheap these days on eBay.

I have sold $350 pants for $26. Tears

Jonathan,

I too sell name brand (not designer) clothing on ebay - but I back off in the summer months.

Summer clothing is dirt cheap in the stores - especially right now as it is clearance season.

I will pick back up again in the early fall. Seems that ebay business is down all over the place.

People are out and about - enjoying the weather and not spending so much time at home on the computer. They are spending their money on trips or saving because of the multiple major lay-offs that have happened around the country.

Things should pick back up in the fall - and closer to the holidays.

Good luck to you!

That is what I suspected.

I'm a six month newbie,too.
Sell high-end designer accessories &
vintage. Even the number of hits is way
down. The previous poster is probably right.
We are competing with the end of summer
clearances at the stores, good weather,
vacations, back to school/college expenses and the ecomony. My merchandise might
be a little stale too--as I am saving some
of my recent finds for after Labor Day.
What seems to be selling are my very
special pieces. Good, middle of the road
stuff is not.

Ditto to the above, however, I can add that having sold designer clothing on ebay for 3 years now, I have also noticed that if its modern or gently vintage (up to 20 years old) that it is also very seasonal on ebay just like in the shops -- ie: sell summer clothes in April - August, and winter clothes September - March. Doesn't seem to matter if you have a dynamite wool suit for sale in June... it won't go as high... Also evening clothes sell better in the winter. There are of course exceptions to the rule as I had some great summer Pucci tops that got insultingly low bids on them (THank God I put a reserve on!) and bathing suits aren't selling that well for me this summer... ALso, the trends in the who's hot and who's not should be looked at... Pucci, Courreges and Halston are cooling, while Issey Miyake and others seem to be on the way up. Hermes and Chanel are up and down for me - one week hot, the next week not... who knows why?
I had a Chanel purse only go to 225.00 a few weeks back, when the identical purse went to $400.00 the week before! And to add insult to injury, they turned out to be a deadbeat and never paid for it! Fine with me, I will try again when CHanel is hot again! I also had a Hermes scarf one week get no bids and the next week sell for $225.00.... ebay is NOT a science! You can't count on the same reaction every time!

yah last week I sold a chanel dress for $500 and I originally bought it for $75 at a consignment shop.

Also it all depends on the item. I am very picky about what I get and I usually get great deals. I purchased three Chanel suits under $1500

So at that price I can always make a bit of profit.

Yah ebay is nooo science. thats for sure.
