How does one remove the tag-sticky from the shiny smooth dust jacket of a book without harming the dust jacket?

Goo Gone works fine on glossy covers. You can get it at any K-Mart. I use it to get sticky tags off most anything, though it might leave an oil stain on paper/cardboard items that don't have a glossy coating - although I've used it on such items without getting a stain.

Goo Gone definitely works. I use it all the time for price tag stickiness. If in doubt though, test it in an inconspicuous area first.

I use Goo Gone but if you happen to have lighter fluid in the house that works very well also.
