I have to a cute story. I just got home from a few garage sales, and I found a Fisher Price Set. I paid almost nothing for it. I was walking to my car, and a man approached me and asked if I wanted to make a little money on it and sell it to him. I knew it was worth $$$ at that point. I just checked and they sell between $25-$35 on ebay!

Cool find!

As I'm doing this parttime, my GS day is tomorrow -- Looking like rain too

My better-half went out today and picked up a Japanese tea set and a Brass tray. Will have to look them over when I get home.

How come I hear about all these sellers finding neat things at garage sales, yet everything on eBay seems to come from an "estate sale"?

Found a set of 26 Time Life "The Good Cook" cook books at the recycle center last week. They have several bids with the high bid at $53.00!!!! And still a few days to go.

The yard sales today were rained out today.

I would think that rain would be good news for professional estate sale chasers. It reduces the competition.

Well the weather was good but due to two lazy children I didn't get out until 10 so I didn't expect much. I did get 4 Chilton car manuals for .25/ea. A box of older Christian romance novels (about 100) for two dollars, 3 cross stitch kits two Disney of the dwarfs for 1.00 each, a bunch of other books in hc, and pb for .10 each.
I may go back tomorrow as they still had a full basement, and half a shed to go through and they're moving and just want the stuff out of there. There are several estate sales tomorrow I may go to a couple of those and see what I find on the way. There's over a hundred sales within 20 miles and I can't be everywhere. Wish I had a partner!

Stayed home with a migraine today, but did go out yesterday and picked up some nice stuff.

For myself - a Lane cedar chest $10, when I got it home I found two newspapers from when Kennedy was killed and his funeral. Probably not worth much, but a neat find anyway. Also several very nice old framed prints for $1-$2 each.

Two boxes of old books at .20 cents per book, found many of them listed on abe.com at pretty decent prices including one that was listed at between $200-$400! It's a locally published book from 1883 about a young mans experience settling in the Dakotas.

Two old German angels with wax heads and hands - 5 cents ea., a big pile of vintage printed napkins 5o cents, 4 older TY plush $2 ea., plus some nice glassware, teacups and various odds & ends.

I'm hoping to hit a few more sales tomorrow, provided this %@#& headache is gone!

Happy saling everyone, hope the weather's nice!

I didn't go to any sales today because I am saving my money for the biggest, best church sale of the whole year around here. I always find so much stuff there that this year I am taking two other people just to get other things while I look at books, music and videos. I can hardly wait! I am going to be one of the first in line tomorrow.

tootsiepop, You would be surprised how much those Kennedy newspapers will sell for. There are companies out there who buy old newspapers to re-sell to people (ever hear a commercial about getting a newspaper from the day you were born?)

I sold a lot of Kennedy newspapers about a year ago. I paid $30 for 8 of them, and sold them for over $100.00.

Electronic self inflating blood pressure checker for $3

My daughter asked me to go out with her today. It was hot and humid, but we took the 2 kids and got an early start. Well, Nothing like trying to find sales from signs that had none with them. UGH!! I HATE that. It was incredibly POOR pickings today. About the best I can say was, everything was cheap
A ton of Sheets for a quarter each, a box of old books, magazines for $1, Bought the grandkids a toy baskeball hoop for $2 ( the kind that grows with them), a bunch of Troll dolls for $2.

Pickings were slim here in Atlanta area as well. Last week wasn't too bad -- but today stunk.

Always next week!

No garage sales today. Went to an auction instead. All of next door. Very nice as I could go inside and have a drink when there was nothing coming up. Air Conditioning was a must.

Everything going cheap due to heat and low turnout. Bought 400 or so records from 50s-60s for $8.00. Some big names, Sinatra, Dorsey, Doris Day, Armstrong etc. Also a lot of religious/spoken word records.Roughly 100 have never been opened and are stil in original plastic. Got them to air conditioning as quickly as possible.

Also picked up about 100 78rpm records. I don't have much experience with these. Anyone have any advice on selling them? Talking 30s-40s on these.

Several boxes of books, a weedwacker (for me) and a desk. Spent $22.50 all day and have enough records to keep me busy for 3 weeks.

Overall a very good day.

Pickins were really slim at the garage sales here. After the garage sales I went to an auction and came home with my station wagon full
It was probably 100 degress with 90% humidity so I came home sweaty and sunburned even though I'd poured on the sunscreen when I got there.

Well, I wasn't going to a gs because I have pretty much given them up and go to thrift stores instead. But when I find one right in front of me I have to stop!

The owner was a school principal. She had some great stuff; all clean, well maintained and priced right. I was able to fill a couple large boxes with like new mostly Newbery Award books (.25) and three great rainy day puzzles for my daughter's new classroom! $17.00 was a bargain for them.

My daughter is away finishing her masters and hasn't had alot of time so I have found a whole library for her and the children for this fall. More fun for me than hunting to make money anyway! She was able to use every book too.

I found an awesome yard sale this week! Must have been over 100 boxes of great stuff... mostly 40's, 50's and 60's. Big racks of vintage jewelry, 4 for $1, old books, sheet music, games, linens, pottery and appliances.
Nothing was marked, so I only filled 3 boxes, expecting it to be about $50 or $60. When the lady said $14 for all of it, I went back and got more.

I asked her where she got all that stuff. Turns out her husband has an antique shop in town, goes to a lot of estate sales, buys box lots just to get one item for his shop, then sells the rest dirt cheap! They have a sale every month during the warm weather and in the winter... they have my number!

pwolf,

what a deal! i'm envious.

only went to one 'estate' sale on friday. located in the most exclusive area around here. got there on time. junk, junk, and more junk . wasn't even cheap junk!

did find 2 vintage cashmere sweaters at the local thrift shops, though. one for $13, but it's nearly mint, never been worn. $3 for the other, in good condition.
