Hi,
I always get all the answers here,
So here's another question for you guys.
(BTW, thank you for all the previous ones if I forgot
My TOS says:
Payment: Money order or
Credit cards accepted via BidPay.Com
I DONT ACCEPT PAYPAL!

Then week ago I get a payment by Paypal,
I dont have an account, but I have an email
Address so it came through
( I hate that!) so I email the buyer saying I will send the money back,
So I open an account, send the money , close the account. (she sent BidPay 2 hours later) O.K.
3 days ago I get another blind person,
And I get another PayPal payment,
So I email the buyer, go through
The whole thing of opening and sendning and closing again,
BUT this time I never heard from the buyer again.
Is it my fault?
Can I leave a neg for not Paying me?
For not reading and going with my TOS?
(I wanna add one more thing,
My listing page says my payment info, my about me page has it and my WBN has it again)
What else can I do?
Cancel my email and do business with smoke signals so I dont have to deal with PayPaL?
My TOS says I need payment within 10 days of auction close,
It was 6 already and I havent heard from her again,
So what do you suggest?
Thank you
Have a great weekend

If you don't have a paypal account, don't bother to open then close the account. Just tell them that they have to cancel the payment because you don't have a Paypal account (they can do it because you haven't "accepted" it yet).

I did, the first one didnt know how so I did
It for her,
It was faster,
But this other one wont even reply or anything, I told her in my second email that she has to cancel it,
Since it was still "pending payment"
But she wouldnt even reply to that,
So after 3 days I sent her the money back,
But I still have $108.00 missing!
11 emails later nothing... So...
I dont know, maybe she doesnt like me

I never get people just sending me paypal Untill they ask me if its ok to send it that way.

Every buyer always writes and ask which method I perfer then to send by inless they are sending a check or money order then they usually dont reply at all just shows up in the mail.

If your buyer are blind consider your self lucky think of all the time you will save not write description or takeing pictures !!!

Well, I have a good WBN and it's all there,
And the first one emailed me if I can take paypal, and like 2 min later I got a email from PayPal,
So it's not like they wait for my reply
Or anything,
The second one didnt even reply to my wbn , just sent the payment,
And I havent heard from her since.
So I really tried...

I think at least sometimes that they do read, they just think they can goad you into accepting THEIR terms.

(Man, if someone sent ME 108.00, I think I would take it whether they pay pal-ed it, wrote a check on a sneaker and mailed it, or taped it to a pigeon's back and flew it over! But I ain't picky... )

You however, do have the right to stick to your terms. The second buyer might have already stuck a check in the mail. You might wait it out 4 more days and then nuke 'em.

This will sound kinda looney but: Open you PayPal account back up, then go into preferences. There is an interesting preference in there "Payments via Send Money":

Would you like to accept payments initiated via the "Send Money" tab on the PayPal website? This preference allows you to manage the types of payments you receive. If you use this preference, you will be able to manage your accounts because every PayPal payment received will be attached to a specific item or to a transaction you previously defined.
Yes - Accept all payments
By choosing Yes you will receive payments initiated via the "Send Money" tab on the PayPal website.

No - Don't accept payments initiated on the PayPal website
By choosing No, you will only accept payments initiated via Web Accept, Shopping Cart, Instant Purchase, Subscriptions, Winning Bidder Notification, Mass Payments, or Money Request.

Warning: If you choose "No," PayPal users who attempt to send you money by initiating the transaction from the "Send Money" tab on the PayPal website will receive an error message directing them to make payment from your website and will be unable to complete payment.

MurphyBird,

Thanks for the info BUT when I went to the paypal site and signed up, I didn't see that option under preferences. Where can you refuse to have people pay you via the "send money tab" like you were saying;.

I just logged on, clicked the Profile tab near the top of the screen, the clicked on preferences on the list on the left hand side (about 1/2 down), then clicked on the "Payment receiving preferences" that is the first hyper link to come up on the right hand side.

If you still don't see it, maybe it is becuase my account is a "Premier" account, and not a normal no-pay account?

Hi MurphyBird
I tried it myself,
And I get as far as preferences,
But none for payments,
This is what comes up:

PayPal news and updates
Customer surveys
Partner/Third party promotions
Money request confirmation
Money notification

That's all the options on the free account,
And I read the help section and all the
Faq but I cannt find anything.
Looks like I'll have to have a premier acc
To do that and I dont want to use PayPal
At all, so it really doesnt make sense,
If you have a premier acc you probably WANT to reieve the money
If you find another way ,
Please please let me know.
Thanks
Laiochka
P.S: update on my blind buyer, still no response, she only has 2 days left...

I am sorry but I gotta say this. Have you all looked at how sellers have gotten carried away with thier TOS lately? It's a wonder bidders make it as far as they do before giving up and saying phooey on your TOS AND your auction.

Although I can surely sympathize with you and give you full credit for trying to make it as clear as possible, but you are never going to get bidders to read all the instructions in your TOS, About Me's, and WBN's, much less, understand or remember them from the next guy, who undoubtedly has a completely different set of rules, and so on. That's a lot of boring reading for someone who just wants to buy CD or backpack or whatever.

I think you might have better luck with those smoke signals.

You might think about trying a simpler approach. Cut back on the instructions and try to give them a couple of simple options that stand out in your auction or WBN and work out your problems with PayPal however you can. Everyone gets annoyed with the buyer paying through PayPal when it's PayPal they should be annoyed with. They lure your buyers in using whatever tactic they can and give them the idea it's just fine and dandy. "You can pay anyone with an e-mail address". Well that's a lot easier than remembering which form of payment this seller accepts here and which they don't, etc., etc.

And while I'm on my high horse, NO ONE deserves a negative feedback for making an auction payment (or attempting to) and you can bet they'll make it very clear why you're getting one back and I wouldn't want that on my record. No siree! bad, bad, bad.

Hi Doormat,
I'm not agry at the buyer for sending
Payment via PayPal
But angry cause she wont reply to me at all.
I hate paypal for that email thing,
But I must stand up for my self on this one,
My tos is very simple,
MO or BidPay, 10 days within auction close.
That's it, not two pages like some sellers,
I was just pointing out that I have it everywhere, so they cannt say that I didnt inform them or something.
But she could atleast have enought courtesy to email me, (sorry for the spelling, I'm from israel )
So now it's just that she wont talk to me,
(she never emailed me in the whole past 8 days) so at this point I'm almost pemted to file her under deadbeats, but this is why I started this question in the 1st place,
I honestly dont know what to do in this situation.

I had to close my PayPal account when they would no longer mail my checks to my PO Box. I actually had to block paypal.com on my email program to stop all the buyers trying to pay me with PayPal. It seems they just think that everyone takes PayPal, even when I put No PayPal in big bold red letters on my auctions. It is PayPal's fault for telling them they can pay anyone who has an email address and also the buyers fault for ASSUMING! We all know what happens when you ASSUME! My terms are very clear on both my auctions and my End of Auction emails and I'll still get buyers who email me back after receiving EOA saying I'm paying you with PayPal. DUH!! Did you read what I sent you? It does get frustrating and I don't know how to solve it so I know what you are going through. I recently had a high bidder who hemmed and hawed around on the payment for 2 weeks, then emailed and said she was paying with PayPal, then never paid. I had to file against her and leave her a neg. Now she's gotten 2 more negs, both from sellers who didn't take PayPal. I think she just ASSUMED every seller took PayPal and ended up only paying for those auctions that did.

Doormat,

I understand that it most of my buyers won't read my TOS no matter how long it is, yet I make it long (yet having it organized is the key - you don't want all your terms in one huge paragraph (like this) (; with no indents anyway). Here is why: I have had bidders email me in the past saying something like "you didn't say that in the auction". Well now they can't say I didn't say it. Also, I do a long TOS because it protects myself from any legal implications or insurance claims, and it saves me from having to refund buyers because I say "no refund." I don't know of any business on the internet who doesn't post a real long user agreement or TOS or something like that. Sellers who don't post a thorough TOS may be okay for some time, but problems arise and also people email you with stupid questions which could have easily been answered in an elaborate, though organized TOS.

Murphybird,

Sorry agiain, I can't find the place in paypal after following your directions where I can block people from sending me money. I just have a regular unverified paypal acct, in case you need to know. What kind of acct do you have and how long have you had it?

I have a premier account (I pay when someone pays me) and I've had it about 1 1/2 years.

I know the option works, I've turned it on!

As a buyer, I agree with doormat.
When I see a TOS with so many rules,
warnings & restrictions, I go elsewhere.
I have excellent feedback, but my warning
light goes off and tells me this might
be a difficult seller and not worth the
hassle of the transaction.
Your buyers aren't blind--perhaps your
self-apsorbtion makes you think that people
actually rememeber or care about every inch
of your TOS. Also, your comment about
hating paypal more than you love money
even though you are Jewish is disgusting
and a religious slur if I ever read one.
This thread should be locked for being
inappropiate. Who cares about your
Paypal problem?

Listen you little icon...
My TOS in my WBN is exactly 10 words,
And not much longer in my auctions,
And it is not my fault that my buyers are illiterate and
so are you, cause you probably wouldn't write what you did above.

As to my thread, since free speech is sooo
Promoted in this country I will say what ever I want,
And this outlook is for everything that is related to eBay,
well Paypal and non paying buyers are.
The dont have to remember my TOS
Just read it....

I am religious and proud to be Jewish ....
but I also have a sense of humor.
May be I can sell you some....

I think your note was ruder then anything I ever read,
but what should I expect after all
You are American.

This was never about any of the above,
I had a simple question about how to deal
With the buyer in 3 days,
Not about religion, stupidity or pathetic speeches but I guess you wouldn't know.

And yes, maybe they should lock this,
So I dont have to read any more of your
"opinions"

WOW, talk about a one post derailment!

LAIOCHKA, before this thing gets locked up, I just wanted to say this...
Don't let the actions of one rude American lead you to believe that all Americans are rude.

We were having a good little discussion here until that rather caustic comment by icons was posted.

BTW, *I* got your humor, I'm not religious but I do have half a brain!

Peace to all who choose to find it!

Whoa - must have been asleep at the wheel when I missed this one!

There have been a few insults bandied about here by more than one offender. This thread has gotten so far off track, the best thing to do would be to put it out of it's misery.
