This book was first published by Signet (right) in 1970, the book on the left is published by Bantam, 1974. I need to know if the Bantam a first edition. I think the Signet is a first.

Obviously, since the Signet was published in 1970 it is the first. It will probably have a numbering line on the copyright page, with the lowest number being 1.

The Bantam is a first printing for that publisher, but if you are selling this book you should ensure the buyer knows it is not the first appearance of the book.

I checked out this book on ABE. Either edition seems to be very valuable because it is a scarce book by Michael Crichton. I don't see that it was ever published in hardback.

Thank you for replying. I kind of thought both were only published once, but was not sure. It's true neither were published in HC.

Michael Crichton published several books while in medical school & used the name John Lange because he didn't want it known that he was writing. he helped finance his education with the money & then never did practice medicine. I was totally suprized to learn that JL was MC. I read Drug of Choice 30 years ago & was intrigued by the story. Now that I know who wrote it, I know why.

I bought the Bantam copy for 3.30 & the Signet for 20.00.
