I have a very nice book that I need help identifying which edition it is. I have looked all of the usual places on the net. The book is hard to find and it was issued in three different edition - trade, deluxe, and limited. All three ISBNs are listed in the book but I can't tell which particular one this book is. The descriptions of the other books I found on the net don't help me either. It was issued without a dust jacket and I have looked the book over carefully and can find no indication of what edition it is.

Is there a place where I can find a really good description or see pictures of books if I have the ISBNs?

rainbowman - you might find something by searching Amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com

I have found the book. But none of the descriptions I have seen help narrow down which edition I have. Not exactly anyway. I was hoping to find somewhere where I could get an exact description - kind of binding, color, etc that goes with which edition. There were only 500 limited editions, yet most of the descriptions claim to be one of the 500 and the way they describe the book is like all the others.

There is no place that will tell you which binding goes with which edition. What is the title you are referring to?

Here are a few book related sites:

http://www.rarebooks.org/bookclub.htm
http://www.abaa.org/collectors/index.html

A lot of booksellers on ABE etc. (on the URL below) will describe the boards and other significa of a book. If yours is listed by another bookkseller, it may also describe what theirs looks like for your comparison.

Tried those places. Thanks for posting the links.

The book is called: Loyal She Remains A Pictorial History of Ontario. Published in 1984. The book I have is a first edition of which edition I am not sure.

Likely it is not the limited edition, that would surely be stated in the book such as, 'limited edition of 500 copies', or 'copy 235 of 500 limited edition printing' or something similar.

So that likely narrows it to trade or deluxe.

Your best idea is to look at the binding with an appraising eye. Is it deluxe? Or more like a regular book? Deluxe would be obviously higher quality, perhaps with gilt edges, silk bookmark bound in, or other features that would have set it apart from an ordinary edition.

The limited edition is as follows:

"The limited edition (in maroon cloth) includes a 676 page complete history of Ontario, a parchment presentation sheet, a four colour picture of John Graves Simcoe ( in a separate bound folio), the original order form and reply envelope from the United Empire Loyalists' Association, all gathered in a dark brown fall-down-back box."

Very good. Now I am getting somewhere. As I suspected what I have is more than likely the deluxe edition. It really is a nice book in very good condition but the descriptions I read were all over the place as well as the prices they were asking.

Where did you find that description?
