I bought a zip drive inc scsi card off someone on ebay. I spent over 3 hrs on the phone with iomega because I couldn't get it to recognize the drive...well they figured out it is the scsi card..it is damaged or for whatever reason is not working, it is an iomega scsi card and is the right type for my computer.

The sellers auction ad says all items have been tested and are in working condition. There is no return policy listed on the ad. What should I do...it doesn't mean the drive is broken just the card...should I ask for a partial refund, I would like a complete refund...any suggestions?

Contact the seller, they may have more cards. If not maybe you can get one from Iomega.

Try the card in a different slot if you have not done so already. Some of their SCSI cards are notorious for being tough to install. If you can swing a partial refund just buy an Adaptec card because they are a more robust card. The SCSI will give you more performance than a USB version by putting a lighter load on your CPU.

Just a recommendation here:

Unless you have a very specific reason for needing a Zip drive, I would recommend that you scuttle it and get a CDRW drive instead. They are pretty cheap these days and they hold 700 MB of data instead of 100MB or 250MB. Blank CDRs and CDRWs are only a fraction of the cost of blank Zip disks. And the best part of all: Virtually any PC with CD-ROM drive or DVD drive can use the CDs that you create.

IMO it makes little sense these days to purchase a Zip drive instead of a CDRW. Of course an exception would be if you have some important data stored on Zip disks that you need to recover. Even then, a better course of action would be to find a friend (if possible of course) with a Zip drive AND a CDRW drive and transfer the Zip contents to CDRW.

I know that this is off topic from your original post, but I thought I would mention it anyway. I hope I didn't offend, just giving some friendly advice.

I didn't originate this topic, but I thank you MBM! I've been dithering too long over doing something and was thinking of the zip drive route--now I have a better game plan, thanks to your good advice.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned "The Click Of Death" in this thread...
