You get two receipts when you mail an insured package.
The insurance receipt (green for under $50 or blue for over $50)
And the register receipt for payment which will show the zip code address each item was mailed to. This will also show the insurance payment.

If it was a green ticket, and you lost it, you would be SOL. From direct experience.
For the blue ones, I agree that it should be in the computer somewhere since they are now scanning them. Inquire with your post office buddies tomorrow.

I know what NankerPhlege is.
You must be a Rolling Stones fan.
-------
Any chance that the package is simply overdue? It happens from time to time.
Even if you had the ticket the PO will not start processing a claim for a while. They want you to give it 3 or 4 weeks (can't remember the exact time frame).

Thanks for all the replies, friends....and now I head to the Post Office and see if they're in HELP mode or ******** mode.
The package shipped last Saturday to Olathe, KS from North Texas. I have a friend with whom I swap collectibles that lives in Kansas City and he most always gets packages in 3 days.
I shall let you folks know what transpires
and I appreciate (again) the helpful nature of this group.
Knowing how my temper and how my mind works
I thought it would be easier for me and the Post Office if I would call before I went in.
I called and got three different answers. The first answer was from the 'guy in the back' and he thought it was possible to look up the number in the computer for a BLUE ticket, but he'd have to ask the counter-lady who had been there 150 years.
Counter Lady says, "NO TICKET, NO CHANCE".
{she's been programmed well, don't you agree?}
THEN, it was to the supervisor. Bill says that it should be possible (he hedges himself to say that he's not too sure...) but that the Post Master would be in Monday morning and she would know more about it.
He admits it would be a MONUMENTAL TASK to go through all that information that is on the database (ah-ha!)and that it PROBABLY could be done but it would be a Monumental task.. Notice that he said this twice.
Oh well, that is where the story HERE ends until Monday morning. If you can read between the lines like I can read between the lines - the BOTTOM LINE is that they can do it if they want to do it.
And the only person to blame here is me because I'm the jackass who lost that little blue ticket - had I not lost that then all would be tolerable.
I would love to hear from people who have had success with the Post Office regarding losing a blue slip. It would be more ammo for me when I deal with the Post Master.
And it looks like it will come down to her decision - I'll have to put some Tom Hopkins moves on her and sell the idea because I'm sure that this is the LAST thing she will want to do.
Again, if you have any experience with the P.O. and a situation such as this with a BLUE ticket, I'd love your .02

Thanks for the reply Packer!
Again, it's MY FAULT for losing that cursed receipt. I know that and that is what really makes me mad. I've shipped thousands of insured packages and this is the first receipt I've lost that I needed.
I hope they are of a mind to help, IF they can help.
