I bought some overstock clothing in a big lot over the internet from a company that does not allow returns. All of the items were great, except that one of the nicer pieces has one of those ink security thingys on it. I have all receipts, etc, & proof of purchase plus it has a big orange sticker over the tag. There are no stores in my area that use security tags or I would just see if they could getit off for me. (Tiny town in rural AR) Is there any way to get it off? This item sells for around $25, so I hate to just throw it away. I have emailed the place I bought it from, & they were no help.

I used to work in retail, and I can tell you that those security tags are very well designed and it is very, very difficult to get them off and it is at substantial risk of damage to the garment.

Now, since people did start figuring out how to get them off, the industry developed the ink tag answer. So even if you do manage to separate the two pieces of the tag, the garment is ruined by the ink.

My advice to you is toss it and move on. Sorry.

Do you have a mall with a branch of a large dept. store (i.e. JC Penny, Sears, Macy's) within a reasonable driving distance? Those are the only stores that I can think of that would be able to get that tag off for you. How about specialty shops i.e., leather and fur coats, etc.?

Wish I could be more helpful. Good luck.

You could always do your best to get it off - and when the ink gets on the clothing, try removing the ink with Oxi-Clean. I recently had an ink stain that literally disappeared with Oxi-Clean. You can buy a huge tub of it at Wal-Mart for like $8.00.

The closest mall is over an hour drive.......I may just have to toss it. It is really cute, a pair of baby guess overalls. I just hate to waste anything! I am not sure even oxyclean will get it out - it says "permanent ink" on the side of the thingy. Even if it does, it will take away from the value as I can no longer sell as NWT.
