I'm in California and the site's been down for a while here too. I don't think it's my ISP as I'm not having trouble with any other sites.

Hi,
It is not working in Calif. for about an hour. Nothing has been posted about it being down anywhere that I can find?

That's real strange. I'm in Florida, and it moves with the ussual cable modem speed for me. I even checked some catagories I've never been in to make sure I wasn't pulling out of my cache.

I can't get on the post office site today....

I'm in my brother's internet cafe, and I can get to some of ebay with his DSL modem computers, but his office computer uses a dial up connection and I haven't been able to access any part of ebay on that computer since noon Indiana time.

Search is down, even on the DSL computers, but I can get my seller search page to come up.

I have a cable modem so speed isn't the problem -- the site is just DOA for me (and apparently some others) right now. I had an auction I was going to snipe but I can't connect, so I'm using a sniping service and hoping IT can connect!

I know ebay will often add time to the auctions if they have a wide-spread outage, but I wonder what they do if the outage affects a lot of people but not everyone?

Every other site pops right up. I just got an outbid notice on an item I've been babysitting for a week so SOMEBODY must have just bid on it with only a few minutes left in the auction but I can't get through at all.

Down in SW PA for the last hour or so. Grrr.
Imagine, the middle of the afternoon DST on the eastcoast and down. When the heck is it safe to end auctions? I GIVE UP!

That I can answer.

Not a darn thing

Well, Microbes, that could be good and it could be bad for me -- if my sniping service can connect, I have a better chance of winning the auction because fewer people can get to it.

Not entirely fair, but hey, I don't make the rules.

Weird that Oakland can connect but I can't (I'm in San Francisco).

the server for the company I work for is in "Strawberry, CA", where that is I don't know. I think it's out in the boondocks somewhere. We're not hooked up through any regular or big ISP.

I just brought up the Ebay "STORE" so that, and the fact that some people can get on, would seem to rule out a California blackout.

I'll bet I lost my bid. Should I contact the seller and let him know? Ebay certainly isn't going to tell him.

I am just going to throw this out... The Code Red worm did hit some servers last night. The worm may be clogging up Servers some people are routed thru. The worm may turn out to be a bigger deal than some people thought.

Well, I just got an EOA notice from ebay and my snipe (placed through BidTamer) was apparently successful. I got a steal on the auction price, too -- normally this item goes for almost double what I got it for (I know because I've been watching them for a long time). I have no doubt I got the price I did because some other people couldn't get through to bid.

Remind me to send BidTamer a thank-you note.

Microbes, the worm was the first thing I thought of when I couldn't get through a while ago.

It looks like it's hit 80,000 servers so far.

Just tried going through the back door, so to speak, through eBay UK or eBay Australia. Nothing--can't get there.

It didn't get ebay per say, I just did the weirdest search I could think of, (Blue Wig) and 21 items popped up at cable modem speed.

But I bet some routers are clogged.

jeanyu, I've also tried Japan and UK's Ebays but to no avail. I logged on Half.com and tried getting them to do an Ebay search and failed.

What I can't understand is why eBay seems to always "go down" with regularity and AW seems to almost ALWAYS be available! Maybe now that eBay and AW have "partnered up", AW will share some of their expertise with the 'giant." Wouldn't it be nice to have AW consistency with eBay?
