I'll be selling a HUGE collection of vintage comic books for a friend. In the collection is a signed poster from "Deni and Dave Sim". It's a poster of the "First American Tour 1982" and is signed. I did a search on eBay through all categories and came up with nothing. Does anyone out there know who these guys are and have an idea as to the value of this poster? I'm assuming they probably have something to do with the comics world but have no idea. Thanks for any help/info.

Thanks, arttsupplies...I checked it out...interesting. Not exactly my cup of tea but maybe there will be others out there who will be interested when I put the poster on.

Very interesting person in need of either Phychological assistance, or election to major public office.

Dave Sim is the creator to Cerebus comics, an independent publisher who skirts the main stream of comics. Denni was his wife till the divorce back in the late 80-90's sometime. Both nice people. She went on to Renegade press if it still exists. Try searching under Cerebus for more detailed information on the comics. The books #50 to date average 50 cents each. Sell them in a lot. A limited audience of buyers will seek the issues. Issues numbering #1-10 being the bsst. Good luck

This is a "Postscript" from the link above:

"Sales of Cerebus are widely speculated to have dropped from an all-time high in the low thirty thousands to just above ten thousand. Many retailers will point to the fact that Cerebus was one of the few comics that enjoyed a fair-sized female readership (until issue #186)."

Guess #186 was about the time of the divorce?????

Start it out at $15.00 and let it go. It'll have to be a fan of Dave's. Although Denni was more humane in my opinion.

Hi Empires...Thanks for the suggestion. I've got some other stuff...some comics (haven't looked through them to see what issues) and some Fan Club items so will probably sell them all as a "lot"...and keep my fingers crossed that some die-hard fanatics are out there shopping!

Empires

I just came into a huge lot of comics - probably all late 70's to early 90's vintage (about 10,000 I think) - I was just going to list them in lots of 100 or so - any advice on what to look for or where to start the lots? I know absolutely nothing about comics - other than my son loved the image ones - and the thought of researching them individually has me shuddering!

Any help would be appreciated!

Jane

Image comics were popular and plentiful in their day. Spawn being the best sellers of the bunch. One problem with the whole industry is this fad called CGC. It involved itself in the coin industry, card industry and is now in the comic industry. Graded by so called professionals, then slabbed which raises the price to an astronomical price, over inflated in my opinion. The price those CGC books are bringing can't be realised in the future. Look on ebay doing a search under CGC in the Pop Culture category. WOW is all I can say. Do a search on your browser and type CGC for more info. (I'm biased). Sell the Images in lots of 100 or more, cheap!! Remember the cost of shipping now is very high per weight. Maybe just have the garage sale instead or list them in a local shopper, 50cents each or so.
sulyn1960 If you have 10,000 comics, do some research you must have some good ones in there that will fetch more. Prime dates now are 1940-1960's etc. 1970's is picking up but, specific to early Marvels and DC's.

Use the Overstreet Price guide for a realistic value, then sell at 2/3 or so depending on the book. Or sell to a retailer and move the load...buy a good digital instead of the comics. Have fun at the least. Load now for the free listing days ahead then dump em.

I actually have a run of Cerebus from issue #20 till the present (#268 I think). I bought a sketch from him on that tour when they came to Palo Alto.
The comic is still pretty good but he has lost quite a few readers due to his "author's comments" section, esp issue #186 and another a few months back. Interesting reading but a little out there.
A diehard Cerebus Collector might buy the poster but there aren't as many of them as there used to be.

By the way,
If you have issue #51, read it. It is hysterical. It is also one of the issues that sells for a bit more.

Hi Empires...You sound like you know something about comics...Do you mind another question? I've got 3 packets (return address: Marvelmania, International)...I don't have a clue what these are or what to search on...There's a packet of 8 1/2 x 11 black and white drawings...First sheet says "Spiderman Checklist"...the sheet has First Lines that give the issue number/title of comic/artists and Second Lines...Then a whole list of info giving the information about the enclosed drawings/prints. There are also black & white panels of various comics. What are these and how would I list them? Hope this makes some sense...I'd be happy to send a photo or two to you...Thanks...

blueyes29 Sounds like a kit that may have been offered at one time or another. Can you drop up a jpg of the sheet or other merchandise. I've done this for nearly 30 years now... retail, yuk!

They came in a brown manilla envelope...no date...from "marvelmania international." Hope you can tell something from the pics...I did them hurridly...Thanks for any help/info!

Do you have the cover of how these were packaged? Or inside the indicia may have the title. Looks like a kit produced to promote collecting of comics back maybe in the 80's? Maybe as a solicitation to artists/writers etc. Likely start at $25.00 or more with the pictures. Best of luck.

Hi again Empires...Thanks for help/info. Yes, I think this was probably a kit sent to encourage collecting. The guy I'm selling this stuff for was a REAL collector and saved everything! He belonged to several fan clubs and still has membership cards, buttons, etc. The packet doesn't have any other identifying info other than what's in pics. I'll give it a go and see what happens! Thanks again...

blueyes29 Go to (Pop Culture, Comics, Alternative) in ebay as they have a section for Fanzines in which you may have good luck or just list the merchandise in Modern section under comics. Very competitive.
