For some reason, I can't figure out what to tell a friend the best way is to get their "valuable" sculpture appraised, so they can put it up for bid at eBay.
I don't want to end up listing this thing for him either.

Have you done an ebay search or a web search to see if there are other "valuable" sculptures like the one he owns?

"You're my friend. I love you. I don't want business to be a thing with us. Please don't ask me to list this for you."

Have them put it on ebay with a $1,000,000,000,000,000 reserve. Have lots of good pics and describe as best they can.
They'll find out what it's worth for $3.30 and have no obligation to sell it. Best price they can get for an "informal appraisal", hands down. More accurate than standing in a 6 hour line at an antiques roadshow event too...

I think you should change your name? Fits right in with your question. Now to the subject. No, No, No unless you don't want him for a friend. If he has it appraised and it is expensive will he get his price? There are many factors to think about and I would suggest no. Good Luck

I told a friend that in order to list for someone else I would have to have a vendors license and tax id. After I explained all the tax problems this would cause, they quit asking.
