I have a local ISP that has spam filters, but I've never lost any e-mail over it. They are not the traditional spam filters like most ISPs, filters that somehow decide that certain e-mail is spam. My ISP has a control panel where you can block certain e-mail addresses. For instance, not only can I block a specific e-mail address, but I can block e-mail from certain domains, like anything that ends in "@netflip.com". This works excellent, and doesn't really prevent any eBay related e-mail from reaching me, but then again, it doesn't block all of the spam, only the ones that I choose to block.
I love the feature, more ISPs should provide it.
Automatic, "artificial intelligence" based spam filters are not good for eBay business though, I agree.

Some ISP's block whole domains. I just had an email bounce because RoadRunner is "blocked". Sure, someone may be sending spam thru RoadRunner, but RoadRunner has a heck of a lot of legit users.

I was speaking of domains that are owned by a company, and they are the only ones from that domain e-mailing you, not domains like Roadrunner that may have hundreds or thousands of users. You're right though. I get lots of spam from Hotmail accounts, but I wouldn't dare block anything from that domain!

I was getting a lot of Spam also. I recently signed up with my ISP for their spam/virus email protection, through a company called Postini. You can set your levels of Spam and the one nice thing I REALLY like, I can log in, online and see the emails first. I also have an accept list of emails. It also watches for viruses. When I had a "suspected" email with one, I got an email, went and was able to safely read my email ( it was spam *L*) and hit delete. If I want the email to be delivered, I hit, deliver, and then, have the option of adding it to my accepted email list. I can add a whole domain to the accept if I want. Not a bad deal for $15 a year.
