At least here in Georgia.
I'm thinking of putting a new batch of stuff up Sunday for a 1 week run and seeing how things do with school back in session.
What about the rest of the country?

Here in Alabama, several of the public schools have already started. Most of the rest are starting Monday. Many private schools aren't starting until late August or after Labor Day.

Has anyone seen the hilarious Office Depot commercial, with the kids trudging through the store while the father happily bounds from aisle to aisle buying them back to school stuff? It's great.

Do you know what this means????
I can finally go campin without a billion screaming-bicycling-tearing-through-the-campground kids!!!
Now if the old farts in the Monster Motor homes would just stop asking me if they can have my "view" campsite, it would all be good. I half expect Reba McIntyre or Journey to step out of one of those things!

Just curious... has school started back before labor day in the States for a long time? or is it just recently?... Here in Canada, school doesn't begin until after labor day unless they changed it within the last year or two... I have never heard of kids going back to school in August!

My kids go back Monday. My daughter is a happy camper, and can't wait, but my boy would just as soon never go back.

Last week of August here in Alaska. We've got the state fair starting up next weekend for two weeks. The kids are starting to look a little bored so it will be good for them.

Here in Northern VA most schools start back the day after Labor Day. I believe there is a state law prohibiting earlier starting dates unless the school system gets a waiver. Has to do with the tourist business keeping its student employees on the job until after the holiday.

In NY we don't start back until after Labor Day....But we don't get out until June 22/23.
All you folks who are starting this/next week, when did your kids get out?

In the US southwest they start early, around now, but in the Northeast they don't start til after labor day.
It's a regional thing.

I'm in MA and always as far back as I can remember school starts the Wed. or Thurs. after Labor Day. In the Boston School system the children have to attend school for 180 days - so if we have lots of no school snow days, school can go up to late June.
I think I remember reading (not real sure about this) that schools start so much earlier in the South because of the farming/planting schedules. Anyone know about that? Maybe it had to do when child labor was the norm in the household's fields and farms.

Late August in Wisconsin. I will tell you the students and teachers have so many days off during school time they have to start earlier to get all their days in.

It's been 30 years since I've been in school but I still get this sick feeling in my gut when Labor Day rolls around. Growing up in NJ, school always began the Wednesday after Labor Day. Here in Massachusetts, that is still pretty much the norm although some systems are experimenting with starting the week before Labor Day. My kids live with their mother and I know she loves it when school re-opens. I dread it because the extra-curricular activities start up in full force and it's back to spending all my non-working hours driving kids to all those commitments in their over-scheduled lives.
18 months and counting until my oldest gets his license....

Thats Staples (it's the most wonderful time of the year...) Office Depot is the mushy thank you commerical about how you can get 5% of your quailified back-to-school purchase to the school you choose (never mind that the binder never lists the right schools!!).
The only reason i know this is because (oh the shame!) i work there.
I go back the 27th, but thats university.
