For the first time I've gotten a book order from Russia. I normally ship Global Priority Flat rate envelope overseas, but Russia doesn't take that. Has anyone shipped to Russia before? I see that the Post office can insure packages going there.

I have never shipped to Russia but I looked it up on the USPS website. Shipping to Russia is expensive! You're correct. No Global Priority to Russia (some destinations the P.O. just doesn't offer Global Priority--Italy is another).

Airmail Letter Post is the best deal but no insurance is available with this method:

Airmail Letter-Post 4 - 7 Days $9.25 (one pound package)

Airmail Letter-Post 4 - 7 Days $15.65 (two pound package)

OR

Airmail Parcel Post is more expensive but you can insure it with this method:

Airmail Parcel-Post 4 - 7 Days $16.50 (one pound package)

Airmail Parcel-Post 4 - 7 Days $19.00 (two pound package)

This spring I had to ship a BIG book to Russia. I used the special "m-bag". Ask your Postal clerk for details. Essentially, you have to pay for a minimum weight, and it goes slow-boat, but it was a reasonable charge and my buyer let me know it arrived OK.

How did you address this package? The Russians use a different alphabet.

So do the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, etc. Just address it in English. They have no problems with English. I'll bet The USPS would have a problem with Russian however.

Hi
I lived in Russia for 4 years,
And I can write azbuka so
If you need it I can make the label for you,
But actualy you can send it in English,
But not only the alphabet is different they have different address style:

Name (yelena krasnaya)
City (st. Petersburg)
Street number and street address
(n. 1 Bolshaya ulica)
Apt number (apt n. 34)
Zip code (what ever)
County (russia)

It will help more if you will ask for the buyer how he want it addressed,
BUT the mail people have problems
Reading "fonetic" russian.
If you want, email me (my about me page has my info, id is the same)
And I could fax the label
To you that way it will be in Russian
And you can make one in English for the Po here

I have never sold to Russia. Just make sure you have payment before you ship. They can send you US$ cash. Suggest you check out that it is not fake US$!

when i was in china 2 years ago, counterfeit chinese curency was rampant, shops and hotels all have machines they can slide the bill thru and check watermark?
street hawkers either go by their experience or run into stores and use their machines.
round and round innocent victims tried to pass the buck.
there is also counterfeit us dollars but i heard they are so crudely made most americans can tell.
