Love this new feature! Is it possible to customize the form letter that gets sent out?
(ie: subject line, custom greeting, signature)

How did you get this new version? I've seen posts that I should have gotten a new software alert. I printed postage several times last week and never got any alert about new software that would let me do this! HELP! The version I currently have is 4.2.8.

I kept getting a nag screen that said I had to update by Aug 30th. Kept getting it every time until I downloaded the new version.
The only thing I really notice different is the DC email feature. It's pretty cool, but I'd like to be able to customize the template further.

Boo hoo! I've never been asked to upgrade. I've been using Endicia since early July and I don't have this feature nor have I gotten any nag screens about updating.

You wouldn't have seen the upgrade message unless you used the program after Thursday of last week.

Harry -
IS there a way to customize this letter that gets sent out? I tried to customize just one today and received an error message that shut the program down.

Is there a problem with endicia.com today? It keeps telling me it must be my internet connection, but I'm making it everywhere else just fine. I'm on cable, so it can't be the speed.

Everything is running fine here at Endicia.
Try this at an MS DOS prompt:
TRACERT www.envmgr.com
That will tell you if you have connectivity from your site to ours.

Right now, no.
This is a brand new feature and we are frankly wanting to hear some user feedback (like yours!)
Currently we use an interface to your existing EMail program. The interface is called MAPI (Mail Application Program Interface) and most (but not all) Email programs support this. All Microsoft EMail products support MAPI.
We basically launch a new Email message using your EMail program and prefill the text body. You CAN edit/customize that text before you push the send button. At that point in time, control is passed over completely to your EMail program (e.g. Outlook). We would be interested in hearing more about the crash you experienced when editing the message.

I have upgraded, but I don't see the e-mail feature you are talking about--could someone give me a hint? Thanks!

I don't see the e-mail feature you are talking about
Postage|Postage Log. You should see a bunch of buttons (six) under the log listing -- the one to the farthest left is EMail.

Go to the Postage Log and you'll see the e-mail option.
Personally, I'd like to see a mailto: variation for e-mail clients that do not support MAPI. You can still pre-fill To:, Subject:, and Body: with no problems.

Thank you, I found it, but it says I don't have a MAPI compatible e-mail. What is that? I use hotmail.

HotMail is a totally browser-based system which we don't currently support (probably the best we could do is put the EMail text body on the clipboard so you could paste it into a HotMail message box).
The MAPI compatible EMail programs that I know of are Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus CC Mail, and MS Exchange.
We could use something called SMTP (Simple Mail Transmission Protocol), but that would mean we would have to keep all your "sent" EMails in a custom DAZzle log.
Again, this is a new feature and what we will be finding out in the next weeks will include how many folks are in your boat (i.e., no MAPI).

Harry,
I just finished replicating the procedure I went through this morning when trying to customize this e-mail form letter, with the same results.
I opened up the e-mail feature through Dazzle, and then went to an e-mail template that I had already created in Outlook Express for this type of letter. I copied a portion of my OE template, and then tried to paste it into the Dazzle e-mail form. I got the message "Dazzle has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL. Dazzle will now close."
Hope this helps. Thanks for your presence here...we appreciate it!

HarryNice touch with the email.
If possible, could you add a field somewhere so we could enter the email at the same time as the address, otherwise, it have to switch between windows a few times, but I like the feature a lot. Sweet!
Well after about a mont using Dazzle, I've got most of my USPS "Sales Associates" trained on endicia as well as the local postmistress. But, there are a few "S.A.'s" that are very resistant... I have to go over the program, show them a printout of the Elec. Conf. = $0.00 cost with P.M. etc...
I've made a few boo-boos and am out about $10 so far in the last 30 days... totally my fault... I hit print with either the printer off, or paper instead of labels in my printer... However, the cost savings on the free/cheap DC more than offsets the losses at 10-15 packages per day.
Overall, VERY Pleased with Dazzle/Endicia!!!
Thanks Harry!

If you have good specimens of the boo-boos (a complete scannable 2D barcode on any media), you can mail them to us and we can refund you.
We are lobbying with the USPS to allow us to refund money even when you don't have a specimen to send us -- based on the transaction log that we maintain here. For years, the USPS has been laboring under the mis-conception that "perfect software" will prevent printing errors -- and therefore no refunds should ever be necessary or allowed. The reality (as you have experienced) is that things beyond the software's control can/will occur which result in a misprint.
I think the USPS is "coming around" to the realities of printing, so there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

Just a tip: If you do print on plain paper, you can cut it to label size and glue it with a glue stick. It's certainly not something you would want to do regularly (and I certainly dont because I am printing on the free priority labels from USPS) but I did do it and it went through just fine. Since I was originally using full-page labels and cutting them down to size, how does the PO know that I used labels or plain paper and glue?
