Can anyone give me a website or information to find out how much the Customs Fees will be to ship to the UK? Declared US value would be $479. Thanks in advance for your help!!

It depends on the item, as well as the value.
Sorry, I don't have any URL's handy for more info. Try doing a search on google.com
I know on some items it can be as high as 23%.

And folks from Canada think they have it bad.......

The fees should be the responsability of the recipiant, unless you want to pick them up. You should be able to do it either way. Check with DHL, they specialize in international. Call them, as if you want to ship with them, tell them what you have the size, pounds, value... If they can not answer they should be able to point you in the right direction. If you can not get the info try back again later, it could be the person you are dealing with is very busy.

You could try http://www.hmce.gov.uk
I got timed out when I tried it, so cannot be sure it will answer your question. Try again when we are asleep in two hours time!

Thanks to all of you wonderful folks who offered help!!!!
kiawok: I tried a google search but can not come up with a table that will tell me the rates. spittingcamel: The buyer is going to pay the fees but I was trying to help him figure out how much they were going to be. He'd like to know before he bids on the auction. If I can't find a URL soon, I will try your suggestion and try to call DHL. GreetingsfromUK: I did try the link that you gave but also got timed out. I will definately try again in a few hours. Again, thanks to all of you and if you can come up with anything else, please let me know. Your help is greatly apreciated!

After several hundred International transactions, here's my advice.

Tell your potential bidder it's best if THEY contact their local customs office.

International customs can be quite complicated depending on the item in question, and if YOU misquote them, chances are the customer will blame YOU.

private carrier such as ups would ask you what is the content, value etc of the item and feed into their system, outpopped an amount which includes local customs duty to expedite customs clearing.
so call any of the drop off service of fed exp,ups and the folks there are more likely to help you .
