Here's an interesting email I received. Customer sent payment by Paypal, which I do not accept. Payment terms plainly stated at top of ad: payment by money order or personal check. When the buyer received my EOA notice, he claimed I was trying to change the terms of the auction by not accepting Paypal. Ack!

"Regarding the auction for XXXXXX, auction item # XXXXXXXXX, this contract would be binding if you did not change it mid stream. You did this by stating that you did not accept Paypal in your email to me after the close of the auction. If you can suddenly make changes to the contract, so can I! And I do, by not accepting your terms. It is your email that opens this option to me. In order to have made this contract binding you needed to state your conditions prior to the start of bidding!"

Just tell this dimwit that you will happily forward his email along with a copy of your ad and any other correspondence to SafeHarbour as you file an NPB warning on him. Then advise him that you will cheerfully forward his account to madagency.com, a collection agency that will truly brighten up his days.
Remind him that a neg from him will have a miniscule effect, as you are an established vendor, and that one from you will be like a broadside until he is NARU.

not attacking here, why don't you use PayPal??
I wouldn't even respond, just file for a refund and move on, your out the listing fee and he will have a strike against him.
at the rate I'm going with non paying bidders these days they have to be loosing members about as fast as they are signing up if they are sticking to the 3 strike rule they claim to have. I have filed over for over 300 FVF this year alone, I actually quit counting when I hit 300 in june.

twinsoft,
is it possible your buyer is confusing your auction with another that did accept paypal? that's what it sounds like. i'd tell him to go back to the listing, and if he can find anywhere on it where i said i accepted paypal, i'd be happy to accept a paypal payment from him
wranglers,
300 fvf filings since june?? it's got to be your category. what do you sell?

twinsoft,
Yep, strange bidder week around here. If you choose to respond (f you think it's even worth it), you might try this:
Dear XXX,
I received your email and perhaps you have confused my auction with another one.
Please look on the auction page (you might even want to include a clickable link here) and you will see where I clearly state I only take personal checks or money orders. There is no mention of PayPal nor are there any PayPal logos.
The increases in PayPal fees to sellers over the past few months means many sellers are having to pass these fee increases along to buyers. I choose not to accept them so I can keep my prices low for my customers.
If you wish to honor your bid, I accept personal checks and money orders. If you do not wish to honor your bid, I will file with ebay to get a return of my Final Value Fees.

This is a problem for all of us who don't want to accept Paypal. Many bidders simply assume that they can use it to pay for any auction they bid on.
We let them use it now if they have a cash balance to transfer, but that was Joy's idea. I don't like even accepting that, but hey, she thinks that she's the boss so I've got to bend a little.

we sell gifts and collectibles, all new stuff, I should also say that at that time I wasn't taking PayPal either, only if they hadn't sent payment I would send them a email as a last ditch effort to get them to pay, it worked once in a while.
now we take PayPal again, we only ship PayPal UPS so we have the free tracking, delivery confirmation, and insurance up to 100.00 and we add the PayPal fees as a handling charge. has it stopped the deadbeats? NO
Most of the deadbeats are new people, but I will also get a few that have feedback in the hundreds, I also would rather get a deadbeat than a hot check.........

I stopped accepting Paypal a year ago and I just don't have the energy to reflect on all Paypal's misdeeds.
I did email the bidder and point out to him that the terms were stated in the auction. I'm not sure what the bidder is after, but I get 30 or so deadbeats a month and I won't argue with a bidder over a $5 item.
I don't usually leave negative feedback for deadbeats because that would destroy my feedback rating. But if I hear from this guy again about how I "changed the terms of the auction" he is going to find a "surprise" in his feedback profile.

I understand, I stopped taking PayPal when they started charging, I went back just before they raised their fees twice in two weeks and I stopped taking them again until this last week. Now I offer UPS shipping only for on line transactions and I add PayPal fees into the shipping and handling, plus I don't have to worry about not being in compliance with their on line tracking and I don't have to have special software just UPS on-line office. it's working great so far............
