Reading through the messages here, I see a trend among sellers using the excuse "I was on vacation for X number of days" when responding to a buyer's complaint.
Why do sellers go on vacation and not expect to have to service customers as usual?
Just curious.

the way i read most of those type situations is that the seller went on vacation after the end of auction but before they mailed the item, maybe were a bit slow mailing it because they were not home when payment arrived.......if they actually list auctions then leave before they are over, not being able to answer questions etc, thats a different thing...

May I ask what your solution would be? Should no eBayer ever go on vacation? Should only retailers with employees be allowed to sell?
I believe there are some steps one can take:
1. If waiting on payment from someone, an email telling them that if it arrives after such and such a date, it won't be shipped until such and such a date.
2. If you have auctions ending while you're on vacation, state that in the auction. But then we get to the oft repeated thread: Do buyers ever read?
3. Learn how to do auto emails, so that at the very least your customers will get something from you that states you'll be in contact with them on x/x/xx.
Some things just come up when you are a one or two person operation. I have to say that for the most part, I've had better service from my eBay sellers than I've ever had from mail order companies like Spiegel, Penney's, etc.
