I've been selling for months (over 400 feedback) w/ no problems, but lately I've been receing alot of emails from buyers claiming they have not received their items. I recently found out that the mailbox I drop all my items was burned down; there was no insurance for the items and I state in my description that we're not responsible for lost or stolen items. I do not want to get negative feedback but at the same time I cannot afford to give out refunds for all the itmes. Please help.

I've gotten several emails in the past week from people stating they had not received their items (Movies, VHS and DVD). At first I thought, uh okay...and then I started researching and found that ALL of the complaints I'm having were all shipped on the same day the beginning of this month. I had almost 20 packages that day and so far I've had 4 people tell me they have not received their item. All paid with PayPal. All are getting a refund. I can't afford it either but I'm not taking the risk of chargebacks and negative feedback. One not getting an item I could possibly think they were pulling something over...but 4? They'll get their refunds the end of this week when I have auctions ending and HOPEFULLY people will be paying me with paypal.

Were your items expensive ($20 or more for me is 'expensive')? How many were there?

I wouldnt refund until 30 days, you can go to the post office and fill out a lost package/rifling form, takes about 5 min a form and 9 times out of 10 the package will show up in 3 days.

As far as the mail box burning, that is a tuff one, I would call the post office and see if maybe they have their own personal insurance to cover such a thing...I doubt it though. I would maybe agree to refund a portion of the bid and explain they didnt insure.

Forgive me, I'm a bit confused here. You say the mailbox burned down. Was that a USPS office or a MBE or someother type of place?

When you say there was no insurance, do you mean the buyers didn't pay to insure the items or that the place that burned down didn't have any insurance?

Do you recall the day you mailed the items? Does it correspond with the date of the burning of the mailbox facility?

I would think if you could prove you mailed the items at this location at this time and the items were probably caught in the fire that THEIR insurance should cover your packages which would allow you to reimburse your customers.

I think this would be a fire insurance issue, too.

Eventer - if I'm not mistaken, I think gdomain is saying that the actual mailbox burned, not an office. We had that happen in my hometown a few years back - some smarta$$ kids threw a firecracker into the box and all the mail people had dropped into it was destroyed.

This is a tough one... I wonder what the Post Office's policy is for this situation!
